Bland. And it's nothing like a regular DQ game. At all. Perhaps playing Dragon Quest V before this was a mistake.
I agree. I do love the graphics, though, and the idea, but the implementation leaves a little something to be desired. I do like it, though, I just don't love it. So far, after an hour of play and being a little confused, I give it 7 out of 10 stars, but that's just me.

I hope you'll spend a bit of time in multiplaying before scoring it totally on the tutorials.
I should ban you for even implying that I'd do that. You're lucky I'm in a relatively good mood.
And I do like it, it just lacks the polish you'd expect from a game bearing the Dragon Quest name. The stylus controls are iffy. but the idea of the game is good. The online multiplayer makes it fun to pick up and play.

I'd like to play some more online multiplayer before I write it up tomorrow. I'm just now getting a really good feel for it.
Totally.
Something about a "Corbie 7" memory from a few months back in these forums made me chuckle just now.

I think it'd be silly to expect anything other then a simplified tactics game with this, especially for the points.
Could it have used more monsters? Yes. Could it have used more terrain features? Yes. More moves per monster? Yes.
But for what it is, it's really good. And the fact it's the first DSiWare to have online multiplayer (you can also do local wifi and single DSi multiplayer) It do get a good bang for your buck.
Is it amazing? Absolutely not, but it's a good game worth every penny. One of the better DSiWare games anyways in my opinion, though I'm sure Bomberman DSi will blow it out of the water.
It's not, actually, Suujin Taisen is - or isn't that one available in the US yet?
Anyway, I agree with that 100 percent Hardy
I don't know what game that is. DQ Wars is the first game in NA to have online multiplayer. Not the first game to have online however, Mario VS DK wins that. Actually I guess Opera browser wins. I should have stated I was talking about NA, my apologies.
I woudent say this is a game for evryone but so far im really likeing it. the monters are well balenced the matchs dont drag on at all since theirs two ways to win and a round limit it's like a bite sized fire emblem. the game itself is extreamly small nothing really but a tutorial but im reall enjoying the online play and dominateing btw the small number of monsters and moves is something I like since it makes it unlikly you have a "Curses! I forgot that monster coud do that!" moment it's a nice simple tactical game. The way the monsters are you have to make good use of each on evry turn to win so you cant really rely on one to do all the work . It seems very simple but one wrong move can make you lose the match.

I know you guys do a thorough job on here, it's one of the reasons I love the site. It had just sounded like you had made up your mind already, and I wanted to encourage more gameplay.

Well put.
I don't think anyone looking at this was expecting a traditional DQ game, and I'm betting if you're a fan of DQ, you read up on this prior to its release and didn't jump in blindly thinking it was an epic RPG.
As a Dragon Quest fan, I don't think the game is a waste. if anything it makes me want to go back and play DQ more (which I'm sure was part of Squenix's intention - introducing the series to new players).
It's good fun, and the multiplay is great. The short time limits of each round forces you to think quickly, and despite the simplicity of the game, there is strategy involved. It's worth all 500 of those points.
Also, Dungeons and Dragons is not a board game. Am very disappointed you think that (whoever said it) - go play it, it's awesome (but not a board game)
Dungeons and Dragons is awesome, but there have been many Official Dungeons and Dragons Board Games as well, infact im using one at the moment to get my 6 year old son into playing the game. True nothing can beat the original versions but to be honest when you are playing the board game versions you do spend more time setting it up than ypu do playing it.
...anyway, about this game. I am really looking forward to picking this up as soon as it hits Europe. Does anybody know if the online is regional, worldwide or both?? This would make a good addition to my Suijjin Taisen.

Ah, you make a good point - there's also that D & D collectable miniatures game as well as the basic board games. Still, those are tangent games - it's like saying Mario Tennis is "The Mario Game" - I've never once used a board for the actual RPG.
But I digress.
I just hope DQM's online actually has people using it - no one plays Suujin Taisen

The DQW site says that the WiFi battles are worldwide.
I did a good amount of 1v1 this morning, but had a hard time finding more than one person for the 4 player Survival. Hopefully there will be more people searching for battles tonight.
Also, the computer AI is quite clever in battles - definitely not easy wins when playing solo.
