I'm pretty sure the "old NES game" thing was made up, too. I can find no information on the supposed original. Also, I still don't see how that'd be an excuse. We were comparing it to Mega Man and other games that were actual old, NES games. And according to the made-up story, Dark Void was being made toward the end of the NES's life cycle. Nintendo's press release said that the upcoming SNES is what made them put it on hold. So by that point, better games were definitely being made.
47drift has already pointed out a lot of reasons to be enthusiastic about the game. And the jet pack definitely is well done. I think if it wasn't new and wasn't on a platform bereft of similar titles that it wouldn't shine half as brightly though. I'm going to play it again on the other difficulties, but it's not a game I see myself coming back to as much as the NES run n guns on VC.
@Brandon Ah, yes, that is an unfortunate possibility. Nintendo sets the prices, don't they? I forgot about that.
For all you complaining about the game's length, you downloaded it anyway didn't you? Capcom wins, you lose.
Well they're sure to make more profit off of this game than the HD versions since Metacritic has a greater influence on purchases for those platforms.
I'm happy that I bought it, and the length isn't too much of a concern for me.
Heck, I'll probably get the PC version too
Maybe the iphone and PC versions will have more levels. I do like the whole frustration vs. reward factor of the game. Just like any good old school title. If any of my friends owned a DSi this would now be the first game I'd recommend, followed by MFC of course.
@brandonbwii My recommendations would be exactly the same. I will now enter the prestigious hall of those who have completed the first level of the game! in other words, "fame," i really gotta go
I've downloaded it, and its quite fun. The difficulty is REALLY up there though, since it was "made for the NES". I tried to beat the level more than once but that damn boss keeps killing me sigh. Man, was I pissed off, since it took about 20-30 minutes each time I attempted it. Its a pretty fun game, though, with the jetpack and multiple weapons. And even though the graphics are 8-bit, they are still remarkably awesome!
Bah...but its a very cool game!!!!! it kind of ended within 2 hrs of gameplay tho. Makes you wish it was longer, at least 7 levels. It aint that much easy, which is cool. The final boss is a B!@#$%. my complaints are....the game/DS froze into a blank screen twice, and once it froze the DSi completely. And at that time it didnt save my last points after finishing the game...I'm in hate with this game for today. tomorrow i'll give it another go! Completely worth it!!
Great game. Really fun. Almost beat the 3rd level but had to stop. But I can't find all of the bounuses in most of the levels. I can only find 98/100 of those yellow orbs and 4/5 of the jorunal entries on level one. I'll probably re=play it and try to find them.

From the SE checkpoint, go down the sets of platforms underneath. To your left should be a Liberator, right a jetpack. Above the jetpack but under the platform is a walk-through wall that leads to the missing 2 orbs and journal entry.
Also, I didn't find this game that hard on easy, I only died once out of all 3 levels. (And it was the first level, by touching the lava.) Hard mode though... lost 2 lives on level 1 in the first locked room that spawns those Metroid-esque things. If you're near those when they explode... holy crap be prepared to take a lot of damage. Level 2, I have yet to beat it.
I'm glad to see that this game is getting mostly universal acclaim. Too bad the same can't be said about the console version. The scores turning up for the 360 and PS3 versions on Metacritic aren't looking too good.
Guys.... At the Main Menu got to "HELP" then tap on "Dark Void History". It will tell you how the game came to be and exactly how awesome it is it even saw light of day of a release on DSiWare. Everyone who bought it, YOU MUST READ IT, as its really cool if you have any respect for Retro Gaming. The game is unfinished, the first and second level were mostly finished and the third was created with concept art from the original creator close to 20 years ago. The game got the can, as it had a chip to utilize two screens in the arcades, but if you have played it, the game was WAY ahead of its time. Had this game saw a release back then, it would prob be the single most talked about hardcore game to this day. Just getting the first 3 levels, of wich are insanely fun, I can only imagine how much fun a full release could have been. Maybe Capcom will develop a game based on this release, for DSiWare if it sells well. Its my pick for DSiWares Absolute Best. The game that you have, comes from a prototype cartridge that a guy that had a high score in a contest with the game twenty years ago, and apparently he got the cart back to Capcom and then the rest is pretty easy to figure out. There is a pic of the original cart in the DSi game if you read the article. It didnt even have a picture, just a label. To say its incredible that we have the chance to play this awesome bit of the game is a big understatement. Hopefully we will start seeing this happen more and more. Hopefully Nintendo will MAYBE.......... PLEASE finally release that Completely Finished N64 Star Fox sequel they have stashed somewhere.
