I am always looking at the Japanese Nintendo Channel every month for DSi ware previews. I remember seeing this. What was the Japanese title and release date.

Some questions this game gave me since i saw it for the first time, Nacho.

How long will it be (game modes, story lengh...)?
How long has it been in development?
How many multiplayer modes will it have?

Simple questions

If you prefer to answer the questions in spanish:

Una preguntas que este juego me ha dado desde que lo vi por primera vez, Nacho:

¿Como será de largo (modos de juego, duración de la historia...)?
¿Cuanto tiempo ha estado en desarrollo?
¿Cuantos modos de juego tendrá?

Preguntas sencillas que se me ocurren.

Zoipi, oh many thanks for your text in Spanish. I will answer in English for everyone (althought I am not very good speaking English)

1- Game length: The game has 6 castles, with different degrees of difficulty. Each difficulty degree has a different map. In our test, we had more than a week of gameplay, but it always depends of your skills playing strategy games.

2. Development time: The game was developed by Kawamoto and I don't have this data. We needed about three months to translate the game from Japanese to English. It is not easy translate DS games from Japanese.... the English text is much longer and they can say whole words with just a kanji. This is great for small screens but a pain for translations

3. The game has 4 game modes. Normal, Random, Score attack and Versus. The Versus mode features DS Download Play, so you can play against a friend with only one copy of the game. That's great.

Wow, Spanish is so cool.

This is a tower defense game right? How is it different from other tower defense games?

@HolyMackerel It's correct, Dairojo! is a Tower Defense game, a Strategy sub-genre.
In this sub-genre, there are a lot of variations that span from "Plants vs Zombies" to "Crystal Defenders", for example.
The obvious answer is that Dairojo! has a unique theme set in feudal Japan, with cute characters and a lot of charm.
From the game design point of view, this game is more focused in the strategic component than others. In Dairojo!, the castles are a bit labyrinthical and your strategy placing the units is the key to win. In other games the waves are more lineal and the player' speed placing the units has more importance.
On the other hand, Dairojo! is a game with a difficult curve that ends quite high. While the first castle is suitable for everyone, the more difficult castles only have a few valid combinations, if not only one.
The DS Download Play feature is also something to highlight in a DSiWare game. Not many games of this genre can be played in a Versus mode.
Another remarkable point of Dairojo! is how well polished and well designed it is, making the player wanting to play and re-play until the castle is safe.
When I had to evaluate the Japanese version I became addicted in just a couple of tries. Then, I spent weekends playing for hours! I only was able to see big-headed pink ninjas when I closed my eyes!

Wow, you've got me sold. I love tower defense, especially ones that need a lot of strategic thinking. I've also never played a versus tower defense game. DS download play is an awesome addition too. Sounds like a really high quality game. I will be picking this up when it comes out!

@WaltzElf they are fantasy characters. The game is set in the Edo period and it is based in real castles but it is not a realistic game. There are flying ninjas for example

It was obviously never meant to be a realistic re-enactment of Japanese history so I think your question was a little silly.

Clearly you haven't played Mikado Defenders, an iPhone game set in Feudal Japan where you're fighting wave after wave of demons and have summon spirits.

It also featured real historical characters, so the question wasn't actually that silly at all.

I'm sure that I will pick ts up anyway, as I love tower defense, and I'm keen to see how the vs works!

Abylight

Dairojo will be released next Monday priced at 800 Nintendo Points!
