Topic: does mario silver amiibo unlock anything "normal" mario does not?

Hi guys brand new to the forum here so if I make any mistakes or break any rules unintentionally please let me know!

The title pretty much sums it up ... I was lucky (?? not sure how rare they are) enough to be able to place an order online with Walmart for the Mario silver edition version of amiibo's.. we already purchased the "normal" Mario amiibo a while back .. I'm wondering if the silver edition unlocks anything "special" in the Wii U / Nintendo 3DS games that the "normal" mario does not? (by normal mario b.t.w. I mean not gold, not silver, just plain old normal mario ) .. My little guy would probably be happy even with a different colored mario (Mario appears all in silver in games where that normally would not be an option for example)...

Sorry, dont think so. I'm pretty sure that Silver Mario and Gold Mario function the same as the regular Mario. Nothing special but the figure I'm afraid.

Sadly, as FriedSquid said, there is nothing special about the gold/silver variants of Mario other than the figure. The only thing I think it may do is change the appearance of the amiibo that appears on screen in Mario Party 10, as I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that's how Gold Mario works. Not 100% sure about that, though, so I'd have to look it back up.

EDIT: Just looked it back up, and yeah, you do get special perks for using Gold Mario in Mario Party 10, so I'd assume the Silver Mario probably does something.

Ah man ! .. and we don't even own Mario Party 10 ... thanks guys I appreciate the info! ... really strange that Nintendo would do that though you KNOW that the "normal" Mario amiibo would have been one of the first ones snapped up by Nintendo fans I'm sure Nintendo has to know that ... why not put a few extras in for the silver amiibo (for more than one game I mean) to make the gameplay different for it than "normal" Mario? I know I know people might buy the silver one too anyways because it looks cool .. thanks again everyone!

3 weeks later but I am wondering the same thing. I already purchased one but he is still in the box, in the bag, w/ the receipt, that says I have until July 1 to return him. I really thought something in Spaltoon, like FLUDD or silver paint. Maybe silver Yoshi, as every other amiibo seems to work on Yoshi. I haven't even seen it in Super Mario Maker yet.

The fact that Amazon US currently has them in stock makes me think they must have made a lot. Why make a lot of an amiibo and then not use it in game? Can't Nitnedo even get that part right?
