Topic: Would I like Rune Factory 3 if I am a straight female?

I have nothing against homosexuality, but I am a straight female and the fact that part of the game involves wooing females is not something I find appealing. i already bought RF4 and LOVE it and I know that before RF 4 came out, 3 was the best in the series according to most people. Is the game still worth getting, or have any girls played this game and enjoyed it?? Thank you! Also, I understand that you can play as a girl after you beat the story, is that correct?

Uh, no offense, but that doesn't make it homosexual. From the character's perspective its a straight relationship, and I doubt most people genuinely love the characters in games which dating/marriage. Have you played older Harvest Moon games? If it didn't bother you then it shouldn't be a problem here. The game doesn't have actual dating like RF4 does, so its less involved outside the story itself.

Its definitely worth picking up if you can look past it. Personally, I've enjoyed the girl versions of Harvest Moon, and I'm definitely not female. As for playing as a girl after you beat it, I think you might be thinking of Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny.

This thread is off to a start. Though to answer the question, I would say yes.

I give it one day, sorry OP.

Well so far, 50% of the replies have been kneejerk responses to an innocent statement and 50% unhelpful replies.

Yeah, this is going well.

If you object to that integral part of the game - courting ladies (I can't find any reference on Wikipedia or Gamefaqs that suggests you can play as a girl after beating it), then no.

Personally, I never beat the game - even though it's less combat orientated, I prefer Harvest Moon. Plus, I couldn't stand the voice acting.

The above is probably the best answer you're going to see in this thread.

Gender doesn't matter, it's a great game and you should not miss your chance to play it. It's super fun and addictive.

I don't know: how insecure are you in your sexuality? If you're not, I wouldn't think marrying ladies in a video game would be a big deal when you know you'll probably love everything else about the game.

Then again, some men refuse to play video game where they're straight women, too.

If you like Rune Factory, then play it.

well, it's just a game(a good one too)
I can see why people are bothered by these kinds of situations but as I frequently say:

Dude, not liking to date your gender as the opposite gender doesn't mean you're insecure it mixing reality with fiction, or anything; it just doesn't go right with some people. I've never played a game where I'm this situation (male version), so I can't say how it'll affect your enjoyment. And I think this is a legitamite question though. If your really don't know, you can buy it used at GameStop and return it within a week for any reason. Even not liking is a legitamite reason they accept. It has to be used though, not new. I think this is a good idea to try since it'll let know for sure with no risk to your wallet.

I am having trouble understanding the question. As a straight female of (ahem) advanced years I've played many, many games as a male character. If u haven't, u are either very new to gaming or extremely selective about what games u play.

RF3 is one of the best in the series. U play as a guy who courts girls. Nothing gay there. No 'buts' needed.

Not buying a game like this as long as you can't marry domestic livestock. Not including that option's just pathetic.

I agree, if I'm understanding you correctly. As a straight male, I don't like to play as a female character where there's a male love interest. It just doesn't work with me. I wouldn't want to play as a male trying to romance a male either. I don't see any issue with that at all, it's just being honest about the limits of your imagination.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

It's not about being gay or straight though. OP has trouble relating to romantic options outside of her own orientation and thus sees no appeal in it. If a major focus of the game is romance, this is a legitimate issue. Kinda breaks the immersion of roleplaying when you can't relate to the character drama.

But as others have said, RF3 doesn't have a very heavy emphasis on romance. RF4 was the first game to have an actual dating system.

For what it's worth, I'm a straight male and have played a couple of otome games (romance games with female lead). I don't play from the perspective of the female main character though. I play as a 3rd party observer and treat the female lead as if she were a sister or close friend. Makes romantic choices more relateable. I don't choose a guy that I'm attracted to. I choose a guy that I think is suitable for my "sister" or "friend."

Thank you! Yes, I understand your point, but I felt like I had to phrase it that way because I have asked this question on a few other sites and people were extremely pffended that I was unsure of buying it and said "You must hate homos." so I thought it would be best just to put that out there. I am straight haha but it just bugs me when I ask a question like this and people assume I must hate homosexuals. So I wanted to thank everyone for answering my question fairly here!

As others have said, it's not a big part of the game. It just seems like it would be an awful shame to miss out on a game you know you're probably going to love because of a minor dating element.

The op was the one who brought up the homosexuality issue, including the expected 'but'.

Females have had to play as the male protagonist for decades. If u wanted to play the games, it is what u did. We had to adopt a more flexible way of relating to characters, perhaps. The main purpose of RF games is different for each player. The romance in HM/RF games is very innocent. A touch of real life empathy for your character and Bob's your uncle, immersion is there. I find it difficult to see it as a legitimate issue.

Add in the fact that u also play as a monster in RF3, I think the problem of identifying with your character flies right out the window.
