I have no idea why, but after installing the update for the system, the battery is charging for way too long than what it used to be(3 1/2 to 4-4 1/2) and it kind of feels that the battery is a little more shorter. And I don't and haven't let the battery drop to zero. The only other thing that I can remember is putting my cousin's flash card in my system.
If you have a smartphone and use twitter you should notice the same thing. Basically every so often Miiverse looks for any updates which causes the wifi to kick in so this drains the battery more as Wifi typically is a power hog. If you turn the 3DS completely off you should notice it charging just as fast as before.
It charges longer? I didn't know that the actual battery increases in size during an update. Sweet, a longer battery life must have been the best part of the update, f Miiverse and unified accounts. This is Nintendo, thinking outside the box!!

Umm, a software/system update wouldn't expand the battery's capacity in any way. That is physically impossible to do. Battery life can be increased through a system update through increases in efficiency in battery usage, i.e. using less power to do the same amount of stuff. This would give the illusion of more battery usage, but actually capacity has not increased. As for why it would take longer, I'm going to assume that increased SpotPass use during sleep would use more battery power, causing a longer charge time. That previous statement, is based on two assumptions: 1. The 3DS, while charging, is in sleep mode, and 2. Miiverse does increase SpotPass use in sleep mode (I have no idea on this, I haven't found time to dive into Miiverse).

@Jazzer94 - I have no idea if he is or not; I'm no longer active enough on NL to know who's a troll or not, and sarcasm doesn't translate well on the internet.

So, based from that, is there something in the 3ds that is like a "background data" option or something related to that? And yes when charging, I turn it off and not put it on sleep mode.
