I agree that Cave Story 3D is completely and utterly obsolete with this one, but what can you do? Cave Story DSiWare exists for DSi owners and is only on the eShop until this new and improved version comes out. It's your choice whether to buy each version, knowing that it's possible there could be a better one down the line.
Oh no, you didn't. Comparing a medicore rehashed franchise to a legendary game is just wrong.
So... you're mad because a franchise that comes out every year that isn't Nintendo, breaks records and is perfecting the FPS genre further and further, is mediocre? Or is it because you've never played it or are bad at it and rage like an immature kid?
Also there aren't five different versions of MW2 out there asking for the same price with little to no worthwhile new features. And I don't recall Cave Story winning any Game of the Year awards. Just saying.
To be totally honest, the update is entirely for selfish reasons. I don't like playing DSiWare games on the 3DS, and I especially don't like playing Cave Story DSiWare on my 3DS. Instead of being 16x16 pixels, the main character becomes 20x20 and the entire game is a bit blurry. Daisuke made some beautiful pixel art and I want to play it the right way. In a month or so, you'll see what I mean.
As long as it lets Cave Story 3D keep the extra Life Capsules and areas, I am excited for this game. I LOVE Cave Story +, and a 3DS port is a dream come true!

Adding 3D and 1 or 2 more modes does not make the old games obsolete. You bought 2 great games and should just be happy with what you've got.
The retail version I bought has literally NOTHING going for it besides the 3D and a novelty little classic mode. So yes, it does make it obsolete.
And when people diss Capcom and Activision for milking their franchises, then Nicalis should not get the freeway ticket for being "indie" or all that crap.

All companies release the same game with new stuff. Just look at Nintendo and Mario, still the exact same concept but yet everyone buys it. Activision milks their FPS games to death. Capcom releases a re-vision version of their old game. Nicalis releases the same game every time with new features, but is otherwise the same game.
No matter where you look, all companies just re-do their old game to get more money. It might be crapping on the consumers but that's just business. Personally I hate Nicalis for re-doing the same game and it's starting to get on my nerves, but yet when I see a new Mario game which is the exact same formula as that last one, I'll eat it up like a wolf.
Nicalis are just trying to let everyone play it, except for the PS3 and 360 owners for some reason... but that's beside the point.

Personally, I'm totally going to buy this. I bought the WiiWare version (which I regret), and I've only played it for about 10 minutes, as I never seem to end up playing my Wii downloads. My 3DS is completely different though, as it's with me at all times and sometimes I might feel like playing something random on the train or something like that. Looking forward to it.

lol, you CANNOT compare the Cave Story rehashes to new Mario games. Mario games are almost always made up of new content with loads of beautiful innovation spread everywhere.
Capcom does re-release some games to often, plus some DLC bullcrap, but the rehashes are sometimes of exceptional quality (BR: Rearmed)
And I agree with Activision, but I'm not huge on FPS games compared to platformers.

It's the retail version. I dropped 40 bucks on that, and this (which'll probably bee $12 or less) features everything in that game plus a LOT more.

@rayword45 Uhm... I really wasn't. I was just stating that Mario games have the same concept behind the game, just with different layouts. I was not in anyway saying it's the same game over and over, just the same CONCEPT of saving Princess Peach, defeat Bowser... WIN! It was just an example buddy...
Cave Story is just a re-done version, it is no way superior to the last, except for in the case of Cave Story+. Nicalis are just milking it and people will buy it because we are generally gullible and conformist.

Looks like I will finally cave in (geddit?) and buy this one. I know as soon I buy it Nicalis will release a new upgraded version, but hey, I have waited long enough to play this.
well i say that you wont regret it, even if Nicalis realeses Cave Story mega hyper ultra version for 3ds. Ok you will regret it if you buy Cave Story 3d (retail).
@Geonjaha I want to know who is actually buying it... surely the whole world must have played it by now. I mean sheesh.
Well, let me put it this way. 1) I live in Europe - so I cant buy the DSiWare version. 2) Cave Story for the 3DS costs outrageous amounts despite being fairly new. 3) I dont own a Wii, but I do own a DSi and 3DS.
See why some people with a 3DS are going to be buying this?
