SA2 has a great story (as long as you can keep track of how the different parts fit together). I don't know how the story in Sonic Colors turns out (it was okay as far as I got), as I ran out of time on my library check-out, but the dialogue in Colors was by far the worst I've ever heard in a Sonic game, and that's saying something. I've never been very strict on voice acting or dialogue in my video games, but now I know what they mean by "ear rape."
As for the gameplay in Sonic Colors, I could write a long post on how frustrating it was, especially the levels where they use a single power-up as a gimmick to make me continually fall into bottomless pit after bottomless pit until I finally manage to get it right and make it to the exit.
By the way, I agree that the 3D gameplay in Unleashed and Colors makes everything too much of a race. They even took away Sonic's trademark spindash! They had Sonic's 3D gameplay just about perfect from the very beginning in the Adventure games, yet those idiots at Sega have never gone back to it in the near decade since. Still, having those 3D levels in the other versions is better than 2D Rush gameplay taking the place of 3D gameplay in the 3DS version of Generations. That's why I'm getting the PC version if I decide to get Generations.

I agree. I thought the Sonic Adventure games were the right direction and just needed a couple tweaks: 1) Better camera. If they just did the same thing with a Sonic Adventure 3 type game and just spent ages fixing the camera, it would have been perfect. It's time consuming and annoying, but 3D cameras have come a long way since the Dreamcast era, even if Sega doesn't realize it and would rather work around it with more 2D style sections than spend the time polishing it.
2) Larger (not necessarily longer) levels with more branching paths. It's OK for Sonic to slow down for a bit and explore. See Sonic 1 - Sonic and Knuckles.
3) Where will we find the time to work on these things? Less random characters. Sonic Adventure 2 was a step in the right direction, but Tails should have been flying and did we really need so many Knuckles/Rouge levels? They were OK, but not as fun as the Sonic/Shadow stuff. I would rather have a shorter, more polished game than one lengthened with filler. Though, I must admit the expansive feeling of the Adventure games were pretty awesome at the time.
I'm excited to eventually play Colors and Generations, since it seems they sort of fixed those things. As for the dialog, I like to think of the SA games as intentionally campy throwbacks to 90's kid/surfer slang culture. It's a lot more fun (er...x-treme, dude) that way.
I haven't tried the race mode yet but there is a time attack mode with online leader boards. I'm playing it for the extras. Yes it is redeemable for club nintendo coins.

Well, of course they are. Sonic originally got his voice in a couple of early '90s cartoons, after all. That's the same era that gave us cartoons like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Earthworm Jim, Freakazoid, and Animaniacs.
By the way, what's so terrible about the camera in the Sonic Adventure games? Sure, we've come a long way technically (and it was pretty buggy for even back then in the SA games), but at least they did a good job with the basics, didn't they? I actually haven't played very many 3D platformers, so maybe I'm just showing some ignorance here.

Yes, the online is good. You race against another player in one of the normal levels. It's fun competing, and there are black holes added in that will suck you in to slow you down. You can dodge these by jumping over them. It's fun, and the black holes offer a nice change of pace.

I beat the game in 3 hours! Realy easy! but an awesome game just love it! And it have alot of missions(100) and it has the best portable Sonic online! I got it the same day as America(Live in Sweden).Who wants to play Online? Just add me!
