And personally, that date would be ideal for me as my college semester doesn't start until the 16th so I'd actually be able to watch it!
As for what I want for the direct, I expect a full reveal of Fire Emblem on Switch with a Spring release window, a few Nindie and triple-AAA announcements, release date for Kirby: Star Allies, and maybe some teasers for games like Pokemon Switch and Metroid Prime 4. Not to mention some first-party announcements, likely including Animal Crossing or a Smash 4 port.
Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.
That makes sense because they usually do their directs on in the middle of the month, and it’s a Thursday. I hope for battalion wars 3, FLNV, retro game.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS isn't even mentioned. Or maybe they'll give it a kind of minute long showreel of some of the games still coming out. I don't think there'll be any new big announcements though. I think they'll just focus on the Switch. That needs some big annoucements and 2018 release dates to keep the momentum they've had in 2017.
I could honestly see most of this happening. The most surprising things would be the FFXV amiibo and Nier: Automata, but given Square Enix and Platinum's healthy relationships with Nintendo they're both definitely possible.
The only thing that seems missing is one 'big' first-party announcement, whether it be Animal Crossing, Pokemon Switch, Smash Bros., or otherwise. Then again, Nintendo may want to have all the focus on Fire Emblem and save other big announcements for later.
If this is real, it would definitely be pleasing to get all these awesome third-party games on Switch, GTAV and FFXV would especially help boost sales and Switch's standing in the gaming industry.

@ilikeike That leak is... I just can't buy that it's called Yoshi's Pop-Up. That's an awful awful name. Maybe Yoshi's Pop-Up Story or something, but eh, even that's meh.
@MisterPi If it's on the eleventh, they could announce the time and date tomorrow. Even the day before, but I don't believe that has happened a lot in the past.
@Octane yep yep! Looking for a new picture for the new year as well. Hoping to hear about a direct this month soon, though, I'm hoping this is the year pikmin 4 is shown
@link3710 I dunno, based on the game's emphasis on cardboard pop-up's that title seems pretty likely to me. Though I agree, Yoshi's Pop-up Story would probably be a better name.

@NaviAndMii My body is beyond ready for this direct. I know it's just a rumor, but it's so hard not getting hyped, especially when Fire Emblem and new joycons are mentioned together!

If that leak is correct I'll be fairly disappointed.
NieR Automata =superb
Dark Souls =awesome
GTAV =brilliant
Final Fantasy XV =never played one
No new first party announcements =terrible
I'll be very surprised if nothing new is announced by Nintendo so I'm not believing this leak. If the Direct is announced today then it's proven fake. If it is announced tomorrow at 9am PT like they say then chances are it's real.
Given that we know little about Nintendo's plans for 2018, there should be some tasty surprises in the first Direct of the year, so I'm looking forward to that. Otherwise, I'd like to see more of the new Yoshi game and Bayonetta 3.
