this is just a rumor and not a true one at that. It's too early to redesign the 3DS and would piss too many people off. It would also cause their stock to plummet because investors would lose faith in them. Maybe the big announcement is a new IP or something else. But I highly doubt it's a new 3DS
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
2) Nintendo (hell anyone) with a handheld to date has and will not make a system upgrade where they add some vital new control part as it's economic suicide as you fracture the market between the have and the have-nots who will be early now pissed off adopters who will more than likely walk than sheep into the upgrade.
This is the main reason I don't believe the article one bit.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
"Love your ego, you won't feel a thing, always number one, the pen with a bent wrist crooked king, sign away our peace, for your war, one word and it's over." ~ Deadmau5
but where would it plug into? if it communicates wirelessly (higly doubtful) it will drive price up, and wirless communication quality down. Igf it needs to plug in it would have to add some bulk (not much) under the system leading to some sort of port. this would mean you have to remove it in order to use the charging cradle, which defeats its main purpose of being easy to pick up and set down

Well, the Touch screen doesn't have to be touched by fingers to work (like the ipod) so just making an analogue for the touch screen really doesn't seem impossible and since the circle pad isn't that big to begin with, it wouldn't take up too much space.
Then again, there is the pressure sensitivity that has to be taken into account...
This is fake, but even if it were true, Nintendo would say that you can just trade in your old 3DS and buy the new one for cheap. I'd guess around $30-$50. BUT it's fake so why are we getting all edgy about this anyway?

Because they've been right before
I'm crossing my fingers

But the touch screen is not multitouch, so that would defeat the purpose of a second circle pad. You might as well just have one show up on the bottom screen.

miyamoto said that they were deliberating two pads but decided that the touchscreen filled the need for a second slider. nintendo doesn't often go back on their design decisions like that. plus, why do this unless there was a giant demand from fans for it? most people were really impressed by how well mercenaries controlled with one slider, for the most part the single pad seems to be working out pretty well.
plus, it's not even possible to attach a second slider to current systems, there's just no way.

If that's Miyamoto's logic, then why did they put 2 Circle Pads on the Wii U controller? It has a touchscreen too.
The PS Vita has a touchscreen and 2 analog sticks, and no one is complaining about that.
Sometimes I think Miyamoto is a hypocrite. He says one thing and then goes in a completely different direction.
What? If The Zelda remake taught me one thing, it's that Gyro Control > Analog stick. The only way I would give in to this is if Nintendo let me download the entire GBA library for free.
I discussed a tad bit about how 3DS is missing a key feature with not featuring two analogue sticks for Vitagamr. But, 3DS is already out and if they do this, the extra attachment will no doubt create issues with the 3DS closing the lid, fitting in the case I've already purchased for my 3DS, and numerous other things. And, nearly every single game created for the 3DS will use the dual analogue sticks from this point forward, making the single analogue systems obsolete - unless the peripheral is used.
If this is true - I'm sure it is, as most everything at E3 was leaked weeks before their actual reveal - and Nintendo doesn't make this right with us loyal fans that paid out top dollar for the 3DS - mandatory add-on peripherals don't cut - I'll be selling my 3DS to the highest buyer and I'm absolutely done with Nintendo for good. I'm sick of paying for systems that barely get used because of the lack of games, and I for dang sure am not about to pay over $30-$40 to upgrade my current 3DS model to the newer model and run the risk of loosing my downloadable games for the third time. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who feels this way either, and either way, if Nintendo isn't actually doing this, they better denounce this tomorrow, or the 3DS sales will plummet - could happen anyways as Nintendo is so sketchy about telling the truth to the public until right before release. I don't know, but this news has officially ruined my day!

Dude, relax. It's not even news. It's just a vague rumor from a sketchy source.
