@Nicholasshole: Who would develop it? GameFreak has said multiple times that they wont do a console game and I'm sure Genius Sonority doesn't want to do another coliseum game but because nintendo and TPC owns them they could be forced to make an another coliseum game. Really it is up to The Pokemon Company to find a another developer outside nintendo like atlus or inside nintendo like Monolith Soft.

Also starting a full console pokemon game for the wii U would be a waste, they would have to do the NX.

And considering the kind of console/handheld environment they're going for, they may just put the main series on console anyway via crossplay which reduces the need for another entry in the Colosseum/XD series.

Gen 7 is a better idea so they won't be held back by an already existing region and story.

Sticking with an existing region doesn't hold them back at all. In fact, it gives them the opportunity to flesh out the region even more and breathe new life into it. There's a lot of things in Kalos that haven't been explored yet, it'd be a shame if we moved on without seeing them.

The only thing holding gen 6 back is the storyline. Ok Mega evolution? Cool!.. Story behind it? Who was drunk? Then the other parts of the plot I've already bashed to death like lysandre.

Otherwise, the landscape itself can be easily improved and expanded, just there needs to be some serious plot changes.. ORAS did do a good job with delta episode fixing X/Y's mega evolution story, almost to the point of completely scrapping it.

...and of course trainers/E4 would need buffs but that can be fixed.

You're forgetting one of XY's biggest flaws: replay value. Once you beat the game there's almost nothing to do, they need side features you can do when you're not exploring and battling.

The story behind mega evolution is that all of the mega stones come from an ancient meteor that rayquaza shattered, showering them throughout the lands. So the same energy that manifested deoxys allows pokemon to mega evolve.

That's about as much story / lore as you're going to get out of pokemon.

But if you mean that X&Y didn't have much of a plot within themselves then, yes, I agree. It was especially disappointing and felt very rushed when you fought Xerneas / Yvetal in the same spot, in a rando underground factory, without any plot differences. I realize ORAS had a similar issue, but I feel that at least Kyogre totally fit in that game (you really should have encountered Groudon in the volcano, but w/e.) That and they put actual effort into giving the two their own elemental nature.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

The entire mega stone origin wasnt even explained in X/Y which is ridiculous. I wish so so much gamefreak will put a bigger emphasis on story and lore in the future.

I doubt it. Deep Story and lore have never really been a main focus for Pokemon.

@Aromaiden: This maybe how I grew up with pokemon but I played yellow as my first pokemon game and then LG but Sapphire and then pearl were my most memorable experience because of the story so I always put story as what I wanted most from pokemon.(Pokemon pearl was actually the reason why I like JRPGs)

at the end of they day pokemon is a JRPG so I expect story but honestly its up to whoever playing the game opinions.

@Sleepingmudkip: Not for me. While growing up I played basically played every Pokemon game (I was a HUGE fan back then). My most memorable experiences from Pokemon came from searching, capturing, battling, and trading, and it's honestly what I found the most entertaining from Pokemon. To me, the story while nice, was never a main focus; I always just loved and wanted the Pokemon.

While Generation 7 would be quite exciting, I believe Nintendo should really throw us another curveball. Flashback to Generation 3: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald have been released. Generation 4 hype has not yet started and it's that transitional time period between generations in which Pokemon interest is at a relative low (still high, just low for Pokemon standards). What did Nintendo do next? An RPG-style side story on a console. Enter Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on the GameCube.

Personally, my favorite games of the entire Pokemon franchise are those two GameCube titles. Generation 7 Pokemon XY and ORAS introduced 3D graphical capabilities, but GameCube utilized the multidimensional open-world landscape years prior. Now I know this post doesn't exact fit the topic of the thread, but I think this is a matter that needs to be acknowledged, and hopefully gain some attention.

The Wii U is a fantastic opportunity for the Pokemon franchise. Not for Pokemon Rumble U, but one of the RPG-style. Shadow Pokemon is an amazing and severely underused concept. The 3DS is a handheld device, but the Wii U simply outclasses it in terms of visual output (high-resolution TV screen as opposed to 3DS double screens) and interactivity (GamePad as opposed to handheld controls).

I'm not saying exclusivity (which frankly, I wouldn't mind), but Nintendo should definitely release a standard RPG-style Pokemon game on the Wii U. Anyone agree?

I think a new Pokémon Snap would make way more sense, using the Gamepad to view the world would feel incredible.

As far as Gen 6.5 vs. 7, I'd rather see 7 but I think we're gonna get 6.5 which is unfortunate. I'm not really looking to play another game with the same set of Pokémon with maybe some more Megas thrown at us.. I'm starting to feel like they should alternate between doing either a remake or a .5 release but not both, it's simply too many games (especially considering there's now also alternate versions of each .5 starting with b2/w2 and I don't see why they wouldn't keep that trend)

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!

That's just it though, when people say they think it's a Gen 6.5, they mean that it'll be a Kalos game that has brand new Pokemon in it, which would be a nice way to make the usual third game a bit more new and exciting. And frankly Kalos needs a huge update, so this would be a good way to justify it.

Not a whole lot of interesting news from CoroCoro TBH, but we're getting closer to the big announcement. I'm thinking that's coming at the end of the month at the Pokemon World Championships.

Yeah nothing new, literally. We see more of the blob things in a different position, but that's it. They seem to move like serpentine creatures or grubs. Their importance are obviously being pushed so they have to be related to zygarde somehow.

Actually, a thought just came to mind.. maybe the blobs things are devolutions of zygarde? An un-mega Zygarde? It seems possible since zygarde reverses aura.. and somehow xerneas's aura triggers it.

Wouldn't be practical though since devolution would just suck most likely..

Nah, I think that Zygarde being in the mega evoluyion special is pretty big info. Also, apparently Corocoro says we will get more info next month, so the next game will probably be revealed between now and then.

Obviously the green blob is a Gen 7 Pokemon that'll be available first in a new Pokemon Ranger game (hey, they could be evil and lock it behind amiibo in said Ranger game )

Yeah, the only importance this news has is setting us up for a game announcement in the near future. We know based on the Mega Evolution Special that the game is probably going to be announced by the fall, and next month's CoroCoro is probably going to go into detail about Zygarde and the blob. I think there's a good chance that we'll know about the game this time next month.

A baby or pre-evolution of Zygarde would be pretty interesting, actually.

That new blob pokemon information is looking very intriguing. Purely speculation, but I'm guessing that it's related to Zygarde, but is a brand new Pokemon and not a form change. It could have a similar relationship to Zygarde as Phione does to Manaphy. I'll guess it'll be added to next 6th gen games, which will likely be the Pokemon Z or X2 Y2 games. If that's correct, it would be first time a new Pokemon has been added mid generation, though there's been event Pokemon that took a while to be acknowledged, and they've added new forms during a generation before.

I was hoping it was going to be a random minor 7th gen Pokemon being teased a long time in advance, but I'm doubtful of that now.
