Topic: Only 69 new Pokemon?

I didn't pay attention to the leaks, so I only just found this out. There are only 69 pokemon in the 6th Generation. I assumed it would be the average 150 or so, but it looks like I was off by almost 100!

So anyway. What's next for the franchise? Because surely 69 pokemon won't be enough to satisfy the fans for the next couple years until the 7th gen shows up... if there will even be one.

What do you think will be announced next concerning new pokemon?

Ahem perhaps they will add more pokemon when pokemon z comes out. u_u

I'm almost certain that there's a few extras already programmed into the game (as usual), that we don't yet know about. And because of the hacking safeguards on the 3DS, it's likely we won't know about them until Nintendo actually officially releases them.

Also, the general trend seems to be that every other generation has only a few new Pokémon; Gen. II, Gen. IV and Gen. VI have all had fewer new Pokémon than the preceding generation. So I'd expect a lot more new Pokémon next generation.

Well, have to wait for the new legendaries, then.

There are likely a more event legendaries hidden in the game data. And as people said, there's also the chance Pokemon Z/Pokemon X2 and Y2 might add some more. Perhaps it'll turn out the lack of new species is related to Yveltal and the storyline in the new games.

@CM30: Oh... so you mean Yveltal killed of a lot of the native Kalos Pokémon? I could see that... but that's also freaky... 0_o

Pretty much. Don't quote me on this, but I read on TV Tropes that:

It has happened before (Yveltal killing off Pokemon). Anyone notice how empty the Kalos region is in terms of unique Pokémon? Or how a good chunk of the Pokémon are ghosts... it's happened before, killing everything in the region, removing the original species. All the Pokémon in the game are either new species, legendary, or imported from different regions.

A theory online is that the sequels will let us revive some of the species that were wiped out before the events of X and Y.

Oh Yveltal, you b@$#%&! ...but Yveltal's definitely a cool legendary. He's scarier than Kyurem, by far.

I hope there aren't more legendaries. The last three gens have given us about 30-40 legendaries.

What's worse is how many of them are Mega Evolutions. I just think it's because this region is too near other regions so they had to limit how many new pokemon they could add.

...unless that list doesn't include Mega Evolutions?

@CanisWolfred: No, the 69 is just the brand new Pokémon. I believe there's around 30 Mega Evolutions; I still haven't even seen them all! Nobody seems to have a good list, yet.

Huh. Well, that explains it. They said "50-100 new Pokemon". That sounds about right.

There are a few reasons why there are so few new Pokemon. Mega evolutions must have taken up a lot of the designers time. Plus we only just had the largest amount of new Pokemon ever!
More importantly though, adding too many new Pokemon every gen leads to an overabundance of unnecessary Pokemon. I would rather they concentrated on making a smaller number of great designs (I really like this gen's).
69 is a little stingy, yes, but working on a new console must be difficult! Hopefully, should we see another gen on 3DS, there are a greater number of new pokemon (and mega evolutions). But I'm not too annoyed at the reduction this gen.

As an example, B/W saw the introduction of 3 new bird families - Braviary, Vullaby and Tranquill.
This gen, we have the new Flectchling, but also the reintroduction of an old one - Pidgeot!
Perhaps next gen, they could reintroduce another old bird family, such as Tailow, rather than make any unecessary creations.

I honestly don't mind the lack of new Pokemon at all, we already have more than enough from gen 5. I do wish there were more evolutions for previous gen Pokemon, like Dunsparce who has great potential but terrible stats.

At least most of them are pretty awesome instead of having filler Pokemon.

the thing I am a little desapointed about is the lack of a new legendary Trio like entei raikou and suicune .
