Hi all!

We here at Image & Form thought it was time to show a little something about our upcoming 3DS game SteamWorld Dig, which has been received very well by the games press - so far. My sincere apologies if we're posting in the wrong place, we're kinda new here. And to continue my walk down Humble Path, it would be lovely if you had the time to visit our official Facebook page (see below). Now, on with the goodies:

DON'T WORRY, THEY'RE THE GOOD GUYS
In upcoming Nintendo 3DS mining game SteamWorld Dig, steam-powered robots are the ones to root for.

It’s the turn of the 19th century, and humankind has prematurely blown itself to bits.
The remaining scraps are huddling in caves beneath the surface, and steam-powered robots have taken over the Wild West. A horror scenario? No, rather the setting for SteamWorld Dig, the new 3DS eShop game from Swedish developer Image & Form. And don’t worry: the robots are the good guys. And you’re one of them.

You play the protagonist, Rusty - a lone-wolf, steam-powered cowbot who has come to an old mining town in great need. While digging your way through the old earth for riches and helping the townfolks get back on their feet, you unwittingly wake an ancient evil that lurks below...

SteamWorld Dig is a hardcore platform mining adventure that will be released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop™ in mid 2013. You dig tunnels, collect rare minerals, sell them for better equipment while taking on the terrors of the underground.

Hi WiiLovePeace! You can send an e-mail to us at [email protected] so that we have your contact details. If we decide not to send out for beta testing, then at least we can tell you when the game will be released and so on!

This game looks really awesome, I'd love to help! So exactly what details do I have to send to be a possible candidate for the possible beta testing?

Game looks cool, but I'm very curious as to why in the 'features' listing on the site, in the final point, they have "we're making an Actual Game!(TM)" Why the heck is 'Actual Game' trademarked

Hi all! OK, I'll see if I can sort this out:
@C-Olimar: we've spent quite some time on the music for this game. I think it's typical for many small-to-medium outfits like ours to sort of "hack in the music" at the last stage, but we've decided to never do that again. The music is a mix of Western Ennio Morricone, ambient, and "robotic", if you like.
@Bazly and @iroxursox: The worlds (yes, plural) will be procedurally generated, meaning that they will be created within certain random parameters - the location of items, caves, exits, etc etc will never be the same in two separate game sessions. That said, for the game to be fun, locations and settings will be randomized with a certain intelligence.
@willobee: It's a joke - it seems that some titles out there have less emphasis on gameplay than on the stereoscopic effect. SteamWorld Dig is just as good with and without the 3D feature, because the 3D depth is just a sidenote in the game, and should be in others. We don't mean to be rude, we don't own the trademark "Actual Game" (does anyone?) - but we want to underscore that this is a deep, emergent game, not a casual "wow, it's 3D - let's sell it" experience.

This looks excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more about it. Will there be a European release date? I'd also like to offer my help; I can't do much other than look serious and nod approvingly.

@tigersmask: SteamWorld Dig will be released worldwide, that is, wherever it can be released: Europe (including Australia), USA, Japan. Look forward to your serious looks and approving nods!

This sounds pretty fantastic! I like what I am hearing! Plus pretty much any game with procedural generation I am excited by

And hey now! There are PLENTY of titles that have actually made great use of the stereoscopic event. And by plenty of titles I mean... like... 2.

It really is important that people develop on the system without worrying about the fact that it is 3D though - it seems like a lot of developers think that if your game doesn't make use of the 3D, you just shouldn't bother developing for the 3DS, which makes no sense. So thank you for contributing!

@Emperor: yes, it's really quite cool already. And we're piling on new stuff and features every day, it's getting there!
@Bazly: You're right about the 3D - it has been put to good use in some games. We don't mean to be rude, rather we want to be clear that this game is much more about gameplay than visual effects. And SteamWorld Dig actually uses the stereoscopic effect to create depth... but it's interesting to see that people react to it! Good to have a hook, I guess!
