Topic: "New" 3DS, Too Soon?

I think the N3DS is released way too soon.
the DS had 7 years before the 3DS now with the N3DS that's makes it 3 years that the 3DS is on the market, less than half that the DS released for it to have a cahnce to shine.

The only really "bad" thing about it is that the only way the New 3DS can sell is on exclusives... so I honestly think the next Pokemon mainline game like Pokemon X/Y Part 2 will be exclusive on New 3DS.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I had my 3DS for 3EE DEE years, so an upgrade for mii sounds good now at this moment (cause it'll most likely be released here when my 3EE DEE is 4EE DEE years old)

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!

I hear ya Kawaii, but that's why I'm just gonna try to hold off on it (barring any Monster Hunter exlusives). I never bought any upgraded DS lines, and not even Xenoblade can convince me to buy a new handheld less than 4 years after the last version I got.

This. It's not a new console, it's like the DSi.

Although I really don't blame people for getting confused, New 3DS is an even more confusing name than Wii U, whoever keeps coming up with these names needs to be fired.

Probably a year too soon. But really who cares it'll keep the shareholders happy.

Especially since I've seen Nintendo 3DS abbreviated to N3DS. No joke, when I saw that there was a thread asking people if they would get the N3DS or N3DSXL, I was wondering why the question was just now being asked so far into the XL's life.

Yeah, I want to say that I can't understand why people are so confused... But one look at the name makes me feel Nintendo is to blame. Seriously, did anyone in that company get a degree in marketing??

Personally, I'm in no hurry to upgrade. I got the DSi at launch, but I had a Lite for awhile, and I'm just looking at upgrading to an XL. Xenoblade won't change that, I played through that game and, given its length, am in no hurry to do so again.

Not at all. GameFreak never seems to care to rush out a crappy product just to be on a new system. Emerald came out well into the DS life ( probably a year) and B/W came out when the 3DS already had like 6 months on the market.

Prof_Clayton

I think its the perfect time. When people's 3DS starts to break down and they want to replace it, N3DS will be there just picking up steam with a few exclusives.

Hm...maybe a little. It's only because there might be some people who are just now getting a 3DS XL. Heck a friend of mine was thinking of getting a 3DS for the new Smash Bros., but after I told him about the new model, he started wondering if he should wait until the new one comes out.
Disclaimer: I'm still going to get one when it comes to America, though. I never did upgrade to a 3DS XL, so I might as well get this instead. Plus Xenoblade's going to be on it, and I never got it when it was on the Wii, so...yeah.

I don't think it was too soon of an update that it was too much of an upgrade. If there are any more exclusives, and Xenoblade is one too many for me personally, than I'm going to be seriously upset. I probably wouldn't have cared all to much otherwise.

First of all, it's not a new system per say. It's an upgraded version like the DSi, which came out four years (in Japan) after the DS.

Second, I'd argue that now is a great time for this version. The only way it could sell is with games with upgrades and a handful of exclusives.

Look at it like this...no one is forcing you to upgrade
I'm sorry if that sounds rude, but really people really!!!!!!!!! This happened 2 years after the Gameboy Pocket came out, it happened three years after the DS Lite came out, by the time this thing hits the western world the 3DS will be 4 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People survived on the Gameboy Pocket until the Gameboy Advance came out, people survived off the DS Lite until the 3DS came out...YOU CAN SURIVE ON A 2DS (or any other model of classic 3DS) UNTILL THE 4DSBOY COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Note I am using the Lite and Pocket as they were the most recent models when their respective stopgap came out you could live off a Phat DS or Classic Gameboy too). Yes it will get some exclusives, however with only ONE announced I can't tell if it will be like the DSi (with no major in store exclusive library, DSiWare yes, in store no) or the GBC (fairly large number of exclusives and GB/GBC games) So ladies and gentlemen, can we please calm down????? Yes I am getting one I am beyond hyped I mean why wouldn't I??? After all, whats in a name???

This. It's not a new console, it's like the DSi.

the N3DS is clearly not another 3DS in fact more akin to a next gen system perhaps like an 8.5 gen system but it's clearly not a 3DS 4.1/4.2.

The difference to the N3DS to the DSi that the DSi only has of the shelf updates (e.g. RAM, wifi, download, system) all custom components are the same (e.g. CPU's) yet the N3DS having more processing power clearly shows that's it's a new system with new processors which makes it clearly a new system not a 3DS4.

...,, Sorry, Well, if we see the new 3DS as a new generation, so if it's too soon, but It isn't new succesor; there yet and there will be new games for the 3DS on the way, besides, remember the Game Boy Color and Nintendo DSi were improvements to its previous console, and also had details like exclusive games; who does not remember Pokemon Crystal, only for the GBC and the DSi Ware games that only worked on the DSi, But even so, there were new games that worked in the previous version of the console.
But, oh well..., each one thinks what she/he wants, and trying to be optimistic, even when the New 3DS is in the market, there will be games that will work for normal 3DS (and 2DS) until really the real successor to the 3DS is announced.

There's no timetable law that pits these systems into a certain slot. The fact that both power, 3d capabilities and control methods are affected by this, makes me see it as something more than the dsi was.

I could be wrong, but nintendo sure won't change their handheld market within the next 2-3 years after this... Probably three years or more. This is just more than a micro, or a dsi - the closest we can get is the color, and we all know how that became the de facto standard quickly and for quite some time.

The New 3DS is just a 3DS.

It's not a next-gen system like the 3DS was to the DS. It's comparable to what the DSi was in the DS line of consoles.

DS, DS XL, DSi.
3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS.

The new 3DS will be a little stronger, but that strength will be used mostly by the system, not the games.

Don't worry, the 3DS is not being replaced or killed. The new model is just that, a better newer model of the same thing.
