Topic: New 3DS or DSi?

I once had a DS Lite, but I sold it a couple of years ago. Now that I played on a DS by a friend recently, I decided to buy one again. But I'm really doubting whether I should buy a new New 3DS or a second-hand DSi. I can buy a lot of games of that friend that he isn't playing anymore, so I think I won't be playing many 3DS games, but mostly DS games. That's why I think it's a bit a waste of money to buy a New 3DS which is about 3 times the price of a second-hand DSi. (But of course the New 3DS looks kinda irresistable )

So what would you recommend? Just buy the New 3DS, because the DSi is outdated or something or buy the DSi because that is perfectly suited for my usage?

it depends on if you really aren't going to play any 3DS games. If you truly don't think that you will ever play a 3DS game, then get the DSi. If you think that there might be a few 3DS games that you are going to play you can try to find a refurbished XL. I know Gamestop/EB Games as them as well as the online Nintendo store which are cheaper than a NEW 3DS.

Well, I think I will play some 3D games, because some games I'd really like to play are only for 3DS. I just had a look at the online Nintendo store and do they only sell refurbished XL DS's? Because, actually I don't want a XL DS...
Plus, I decided if I don't buy a New 3DS, it will be a DSi. I'm pretty sure I won't buy the 'old' 3DS due to the specs which are better on New 3DS, whereas the price isn't that higher...
Thanks for the ideas, though

The DSi is outdated and many have faulty shoulder buttons.

However, it's still a viable option if you won't play any newer games. And DS games will look much better on it than on any of the 3DSs.

You could also go for a 2DS, it runs all the same games as the n3DS (with the exception of those that specify they're exclusive to it) and is cheaper.

@Meowpheel Why is it that DS games don't play as well on a 3DS as on a DS Lite/DSi?

They play the same, they just look a bit different.

If you play them on full-screen mode, they're stretched and filtered, which make them a bit blurry. It's not a big deal breaker, and one gets used to it.

You can also play them in pixel perfect mode, which depending on your model, can end up with the games looking tiny.

On the DSi/DSlite, they also look overall brighter and more colorful.

Ooh okay, well that's something to take into consideration then

Okay, another thought came up: is the New 3DS really that much better or is buying the 'old' 3DS the best option for me in this situation?

The new 3ds is a bit faster and has a few exclusive titles (mostly SNES games). Also it comes with the extra inputs from the circle pad pro accessory built in directly on the system. Few games actually use these, but the option is nice.

The 3D effect is also improved.

The old models, 2DS included, are still more than enough to experience the 3DS though. All the big games past and future work just fine on them and they're cheaper and more varied.

Okay, so as I read this, the 'old' 3DS would be best for my purposes? Or is those $55 still worth it? (The looks don't really matter for me, as long as I have the opportunity not getting a baby rose one or whatsover )

Well, if you're interested in a budget friendly option to play DS and 3DS games, the 2DS is perfect.

Its only downside is the lack of 3D effect, which is not that useful to be honest, and it's single mono speaker (but you can use headphones). Other than that, it's a great piece of hardware.

i'd go with the 2DS...the DSi shop is not going to be up much longer. I think you have until September to add DS points and only until March next year to buy the DSi software. After that you're out of luck.
