@Joeynator3000 See, the thing is I don't remember hearing much in the way of concrete arguments against Generations from you. The things Gen lacks compared to 4U (except G-Rank, but even that is somewhat overrated in my eyes) tend to be very nit-picky things that hardly affect the experience, while it introduces many other features that streamline it.
I just don't see how someone could have fun with 4U but not Generations, unless he or she was just plain tired of playing in general. Worst I can see is that one enjoys the game, but felt they could have saved some money by sticking with 4U due to it sharing a lot in common with Gen.
The transition from low rank to high rank in Generations...it's basically the same exact monster but harder...even a lot of the deviants are the same exact monsters but harder. Hyper monsters...the same exact monster but harder. Not only that, but aside from Lagia and Lava, the returning monsters are basically the same as they were in the last games they were in. 4U gave a lot of returning monsters new/revamped attacks, and even more when going from high rank to G-Rank.
Generations had a lot of new mechanics I enjoyed, but the repetitiveness in the monsters killed it for me.

I enjoyed Generations, but I found 3U and 4U to be way more fun. The older games had a decent story and you get to know the characters as you go along. Generations instead just throws you into a confusing mess of 4 towns straight away and doesn't give any direction.
Plus, there were a lot of boring quests in Generations. There's a lot of times where after you defeat a quest, it'll then give a new quest that's exactly the same but in a different location. At least 3U and 4U would often mix it up by changing something or adding in a second monster to hunt so that it's different. Plus, there's those fustrating Hunt 50 Flying Bugs quests. Trying out all the different quests was fun in 3U and 4U, but I have no motivation to do it in Generations.
As for the monsters, I love the variety in Generations, but I miss the tricks they learn in G rank. And I don't know if I'm getting good at the game or if the game is easier, but it doesn't feel as challenging as 4U. Seregios especially gave me a lot of grief in 4U, but it seemed simple to deal with in Generations.
I'm curious to see how XX will turn out. Maybe it'll fix some of the complains I have with Generations, but I'll have to wait and see.
At least sometimes frenzied mixed something up, same with Apex. Hypers, all they do is make them hit harder...That was the ONLY thing I noticed.
This is what frenzy does for monsters:
Inflicts frenzy with some moves
Rages more easily, but tires more easily as well
Rarely, attacks thin air
Susceptible to wystone benefits
There is one, I repeat, only ONE monster that frenzy does something meaningful to. Brachydios slime varies in it's explosive timing, and it can link a horn blast from a tail whip. Everything else is of dubious merit; they're not exactly harder than normal. Frenzy is so obviously more beneficial than harmful that they turned it into an art. Need I say more?
Hyper, on the other hand:
Glowing parts deal more damage, and sometimes have varied speed
Never gets exhausted
Faster art gain when striking glowing part
Increased HP
Glowing parts sometimes change to keep you on your toes
Like the frenzied Brachy, Hyper Tigrex also has altered behaviour. He likes to throw rocks after charging, sometimes fakes out said charge, and taunts after consecutive charges or rock throws to minimize frustration (the complaints from Freedom Unite were heard).
So Hyper actually makes monsters harder unlike frenzy, without resorting to bull like nigh-invulnerability without wystones (apex).
As for Rank transition... the only thing 4U has over Gen is subspecies. And you know how I feel about most of them. They're mostly early gen subspecies, which are pointless, archaic and unoriginal. Give say, regular Gypceros Purple's noxious poison in XX and I wouldn't even bat an eye. I say good riddance to those; they only add excessive bloat, especially with the ever-growing roster... only rares like metal Raths, or the new deviants are treated like the hard mode monsters they deserve to be. I only hope the newer 4th gen subspecies return at some point... those differences, especially Tigerstripe actually mattered.
@crimsontadpoles Y'know, those 50-bug quests really aren't as bad as they sound, especially if you don't focus too much on poisoning them. Lots appear at a time and they respawn very quickly. You only occasionally need to change areas.
Also consider that we've not fought a low-rank Seregios (or any of the gen 2 elders for that matter) before. Still, it's perfectly valid to want to fight a monster at it's strongest... that just means there's merit to have both 4 Ultimate and Generations at the moment.
Several Frenzied monsters get revamped attacks...not only that, but Apex mixes movesets from counterparts/subspecies. Hypers are just freaking boring and, once again, repetitive. 4U's G-rank also brought in new/revamped moves. Congalala's constant farting when climbing, Rathian chaining a charge attack into a tail flip...Or, my personal favorite, Gravios slowly walking towards you while constantly firing beams at you.

Apex lifting moves from subspecies just proves how pointless those subspecies are. And I challenge you to name a "revamped" frenzy attack that doesn't just add the ailment to that particular move.
You have to realize that not everyone who picks up the latest MonHun is a seasoned pro like you or me. New players have to be eased in, and that includes the monsters not throwing everything they have at the start, or even in the middle. I'm sure you'd be happy if a game consisted of only G-Rank since that seems to be the only difficulty that matters to you, but then the game wouldn't sell nearly as well, would it? It's fine if you like 4U better, but you're making mountains out of anthills when it comes to complaining about monsters not using one or two moves you remember.
And frankly... repetition is something every hunter should be accustomed to. Frenzy is no more better or worse than Hyper in this regard.
Been thinking of something. The description for a Cleanser mentions that it ''Instantly removes all snow or webbing on your body''... even though the only source of the latter is from Nerscylla, which isn't in Generations. This could just be developer oversight or laziness... except they actually fixed Chameleos's description from 4U, which used the outdated notion of using smoke to reveal it. Perhaps it's a sign that they've always planned for Nerscylla for XX?
One of Baru's moves looks awesome... and a bit hilarious. It launches WAY up into the sky before crashing down like a meteor. The funny part comes in that it can be hard tell if it's doing this or just leaving .

I can just imagine the frustrations of a random thinking it's leaving, starting to pop a potion, and then getting carted.
For real now, do you think this game has a shot at localization? The recent Direct focused on my other favorite game series has demonstrated that Nintendo's still going to support the 3DS in the immediate future.

@CrazedCavalier At this point, I'd be surprised if it didn't. Capcom is clearly aware that there's a good audience for this series on the 3DS even in the west, otherwise we would probably have just been waiting for this version the whole time like with 4U. The ability to transfer (more like copying in practice) progress also seems to make this an easier sell for those concerned about burnout. My question is when do we get this.
Of course, in the future if there are Monster Hunters on the Switch that don't get localized we'll now have the option to import.

It's coming, it'll be later this year or early next year, though.

Actually, doesn't one of the online Monster Hunter series in Japan have an advanced character creator? Like, you could literally recreate an anime character out of it. I think someone made Hatsume Miku or whatever her name is there.

Something tells me at least some of the returning monsters may not necessarily be G-Rank exclusive... I just saw a fight with Barroth in the Dunes (clue #1), his skull was not deflecting a blue sharpness cutting weapon (clue #2), and he wasn't throwing mud after his charges like he did in 3U G-Rank (clue #3).
