Topic: Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross)

@Joeynator3000 Well, it was already downgraded in 4U compared to 3U (got guard +1 instead of consitution +2 and lost flame aura and a bit of handicraft while gaining worrywart)-- Barioth's is identical between the two. So I'd hope that's a sign of something.

@meleebrawler Honed Blade was in 3U? Huh.
I think bludgeoner will get a second level to centralize it more on blue sharpness.
And all the G-rank sets and skills are honestly more hype to me at the moment.

Can't remember if I even checked it in 4U, I just know that it was (along with Glacial, lol) one of my favorites in Tri/3U. As for Honed Blade in 3U...didn't Abyssal have it? Can't remember.
EDIT: Yup, he has it.

@Joeynator3000 Indeed. But considering that wearing his full set was basically the only way to get it in that game and that Abyssal is pretty much the last monster to be unlocked... yeah.

@CrazedCavalier Well, Flame Aura isn't much of a loss. Especially now that torch mechanics have been axed completely. It was only ever marginally useful for keeping giggis from munching you.

More likely, though, that multi-skills have found a new home in Deviants, and are unlikely to surface outside of them. I do hope there are few other new ones besides the Fated Four and Genocide Diablos.

@meleebrawler I was more noting that it in general lost a skill, got a debatable downgrade (if it only had previously gotten constitution +1 or had gained guard+2, then it would feel more equal), and had a negative skill slapped on (given, worrywart isn't huge) while Barioth X stayed identical (evasion +2, constitution +2, ice attack +2, stamina recovery down).

And speaking of Deviants, how will they buff the sets for G-rank?
I'm just hoping that they don't make it so that there's another ten levels of them and the sets have to be remade from scratch for G-rank.

I get the weird feeling that G-Rank deviants won't change much. :/

@CrazedCavalier There will undoubtedly be another ten levels of Deviants (gotta keep that XX theme going!), but like Joeynator3000 said, chances are you can just keep on upgrading the sets you're already using. They're evergreen in that sense, useful in all ranks (where you can get them) if you're willing to keep upgrading. Their skillsets certainly aren't lacking right now compared to a typical G set.

It's gonna be a long grind if you wanna make any of the new ones, though... as if it wasn't a pain already.

Anyone stop to think how silly the Seregios Light Bowgun would be in Brave?

@Tsurii And here people thought it was ruined in Gen... in fact it might be even better with that style, not having to stop for rapid fire means a more consistent rhythm of damaging normals and sidestep reloads with additional damage.

@Haru17 One of the comments on that video mentions how it sounds like something from Mario Galaxy (it would kind of fit with how the dragon rockets through the night sky), and now I can't unhear this playing in one of those game's Bowser battles.

@meleebrawler Valfalk's theme sounds awesome. In a vacuum it sounds a bit generic, but it really does mesh well with the monster.

Anyways, I just got hooked on DBs, and considering how much mileage I'm getting out of the "slingshot" attack, I think I've found a weapon I'm really looking forward to play in Brave style (that attack gains a GP at the start that restores sharpness).

Well I traded in MHGen, I'll just stick with 4U for now. (and 3U once I get it again, lol)
Hopefully XX won't be as boring for me.

I should be excited, but it seems like they're just going to be ported from the last game (in Lao's case, Unite)...so, yeah...

....Yeah I'm not whining, just have extremely low expectations for this game after playing Generations. Get over it.

@Joeynator3000 In 4th gen they touched up a lot of older monsters, and Generations overhauled Lavasioth while polishing Plesioth and Blangonga (Cenataur was actually pretty complex and polished for 2nd gen standards; they just made him a bit more aggressive). And then there's the Lagiacrus in the room. XX has restored Barioth to his Tri glory (he jumps around like Nargacuga again) and then some; I would be highly surprised if Lao Shan Lung wasn't updated.

I dunno, I didn't see many changes aside from Lagia and Lavasioth...so the game ended up not being as fun as 4U. After High Rank Nakarkos I just lost all interests in the game, fought Amatsu once and finally decided to trade in the game.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for something more... involved regarding a fight with Lao, especially considering how Generations seemed to make a concerted effort to stay away from those kinds of fights. But then, the place you fight does seem well-suited to the 4th gen engine, and it doesn't seem like it'd too much trouble to retool the final area as something resembling more of an actual battle a la Ceadeus (or possibly have the best of both worlds, say he'll focus on smashing up the gate unless you divert his attention with enough damage). Or they could totally botch it and make him so weak he dies before he even enters the area like Dah'ren. Heck, they could even put other huge monsters there besides Shen Gaoren, like Dire Miralis or even Gogmazios if they don't bring the Battlequarters back.

The main issue with a more aggressive Lao is that it seems likely it would just end up fighting somewhat similarly to Fatalis, like how Ceadeus was mostly a huge Leviathan in movement. But they could easily surprise us with how little of it's capabilities are known at the moment.

@CrazedCavalier I shudder to think of fighting Barioth in the Frozen Seaway's ice caves. It actually seems narrow enough for him to do a double wall jump.

@Joeynator3000 I can't help but feel that your beef isn't so much with Generations itself, but rather general fatigue of the series. You probably still play 4U because you've reached the point where you no longer need to grind for anything, so you can play for short sessions without taking too much focus away from something you enjoy more at the moment, like Pokemon. For me, it's the opposite; I'm still playing this game as much as ever on a new gunner-focused file (which completely changes the way you approach things, and of all Monster Hunters, Generations is easily the most suited to repeat playthroughs, with it's new game+ features, minimal story and even the lack of G-Rank making them easier to digest), but I'm finding hard to get invested in Pokemon again ever since XY, which I had college (or rather, cegep) friends to play with. But I don't blame Sun/Moon specifically for not renewing my interest as much as I'd like. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, is what the series goes by, as does Generations.

@meleebrawler I started over in 3U and 4U....I play the games because I enjoy them. I couldn't even bother to keep playing Generations. It just gets really boring after a while, and I'm talking about the specific game, not the series.
