^ It'd probably have looked "bad" by PS3 standards and wouldn't have done very well with the critics. Looks like Capcom's money is going into the new Dragon's Dogma game, so I definitely wouldn't count on Capcom releasing an HD Monster Hunter to compete with that. Maybe Frontier. A new HD generation though? Probably at the very end of 2012 or spring 2013, if it comes at all.
Capcom likes to put MH on the consoles that are cheapest to develop for, which is why it's on the PSP and Wii. When the NGP arrives the 3DS will be the cheapest to dev for, so I really think that'll become the new MH console. Japan would be all over a MH with StreetPass and stuff, haha.
I've said it before, but if Nintendo's smart they'll give Capcom some money to get MH on the 3DS. The franchise sells systems in Japan. In Japan it'd need to be more than a Portable 3rd port though, because the PSP version has already sold like 5m units over there.

oh damn i cant wait for E3. i mean E3 is always the most awesome thing in this industry but now that i just bought a 3DS i want some great trailers and exclusives announced. last E3 already showed a lot of 3DS games by 3rd parties. but in many cases just the names sadly.
Just 'cause it wasn't at Captivate doesn't mean it won't come out at all. We'll see if they say anything on the 17th, and if they don't we'll just have to wait for E3. Apparently Portable 3rd was announced at its own event, so that could easily happen again. :3

Ah okay. Not the case here, simply saying that its absence at Captivate doesn't mean it's not coming at all, and time will tell whether it's coming or not. mmm, avocados. gdi I'm hungry now.
A big part of me thinks this isn't going to happen.
Like pixelman already pointed out, they have already released MH3portable over in Japan. It wouldn't make a whole of sense business wise to release the same game year later on a different system. Everyone who really wants the game already has it. Then to do a US/EU only release for the 3DS seems really far fetched. Also, other than Frontier they have never released any single Monster Hunter game on more than one system. Frontier is a bit of an exception to the rule as it isn't a solid game and updates constantly.
As far as an entirely new game. They have never done the portable version first. It goes console first and then portable later with added content. I doubt they are going to just break that formula and release MH4 on the 3DS.
As far as a near future release goes it looks bleak.

Though, if there is any weight to these rumors I have to think the are saving something for big for E3. It's right around the corner so why would you blow your big release wad on some little conference like Captivate? I think Tri showed that the Western market for this game is really here finally. So we can hope.......
@JayArr: Yeah, you're right, the hardcore (and I mean hardcore) Monster Hunter fans have already either imported or pirated Portable 3rd, but I'd say pretty much the entire 3DS userbase in NA hasn't played it yet (including myself). If Nintendo backs the marketing over here like they did with Tri, I'd say a port isn't out of the question.
It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. E3 does seem like the most likely place they'd unveil it, if it does happen. I think if it was going to release this summer then it'd have been at Captivate. So... I dunno. I'm not counting on an announcement, but I'm not ruling one out either. :3

I feel that Ono hinted at the possibility of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade coming to 3DS, not MH. There was a response on Twitter where someone asked him about SSFIV Arcade coming to the 3DS and he replied: "Hehehehe ;P"
Weird. Then we have mentions of bringing MH P3rd to the states in the form of 3DS. I'm sure by now, localization of P3rd is near complete.

Just a random thought, but you know, with all of these Wii 2 rumors... Monster Hunter 4? That's waayyy out there, but that kinda might explain Capcom's silence. At any rate, I'm really, really excited for E3, haha.
Now that i think about it @pixelman has a good idea there with the camera controls. I remember the only thing that the L button was used for (on ccp) was to start shuffling the items. Plus the camera could not move in a diagonal motion (which i hated), just horizontally and vertically so the camera can be handled correctly....I'm down with those controls!

Gotta keep on believing but seriously there were a few leaks over the net (not saying that they were accurate) and so much MH talk on the 3DS that Capcom could've at least said something at Captivate or on the 17th. Then again the game industry always wants consumers to beg for what they want. Sad but true heheh.... :/ LOL

Doesn't surprise me. Didn't seem legit — if it was, we'd have heard something from the press. Just need to sit tight and wait for E3 I guess. I don't really mind... I just bought 200 hours worth of GCN games, so I can be patient! XD
