Of course, no sane person would argue that larger files automatically mean better games. But the potential is there. And of course, everything is relative. A 2 gig download on 3DS would seem silly given the storage capacity of the retail game cards. But a lousy 2 gigs on a Blu-Ray seems a lot more wasteful. And of course, 2 gigs doesn't go as far on PS3 as it would on 3DS anyway, so you could probably get the same relative size/quality game on 3DS for less than half the storage, taking into account what the system is capable of. Those high D's don't come in small packages, y'know.
What I hate is that, without actually saying it, so many developers do think that they can make better games given more resources. There certainly isn't anything wrong with devs making use of what they have available, but too many of them won't give their time to anything but the top of the line technology. Limitations force us to be more creative and be better at what we do. There's no reason why a 2gig 3DS game couldn't be just as "big" or "bigger" than a 45gig PS3 game.
Ya, I just read about the delay. Ugh. I know its not that long...but man, I was really hoping for May. The PSN will mostly be down till May 31st. Or later. So with that and now this delay, man....ugh. Not a great month to be a gamer, imo. Well, ok, maybe if you have an X-box...
Though, ya, I suppose its good to have a date. And the date makes sense. That IS Nintendo's E3 day. So they may have just decided (even though its ready?) to delay the update till that day, so that you could announce all the cool Eshop stuff at E3 and release it the same day. Remember when they released the Virtual Console Arcade games (on the Wii) the same day as E3? I bet this is the same idea. Which, I suppose, its a smart way of doing this...I guess...
That's a shame, but not too surprising given how quiet Ninty's been about it. Glad I didn't rush out and get the 3DS with my 5% off target coupon that expired on the 16th. Hopefully, it won't be delayed longer than June 13th (the next Monday) here in NA. At least we have a date now though!
@DF
I hadn't even thought about E3! Good point! This will probably be a worldwide date, I think.
Token_Girl, I would expect the Eshop to appear here in NA and in the UK/etc on June 7th too. I know its not a Monday, but that is E3 day like I said. So I think they'll announce it at E3 on the 7th and then bring it out sometime that day. It'll be a nice way for Nintendo to show off the Shop & games. So, I guess the downside is....no update in May. But the upside is that the Nintendo E3 conference just got more exciting! (as if it wasn't exciting enough. lol).
once again, I was smart and didn't buy a 3DS at launch (Radiant Historia and Okamiden ftw!) so I will already have all this eShop stuff when I get one anyway.
I'm getting a kick from the over-reactions of people. It's amusing. People get very very angry so fast. It's not like Nintendo did this with malicious intent.... I hope not

Ya, I'm not happy, but I'm trying to look on the bright side. I mean, the reason behind this is obvious. Nintendo delayed it so that they could really promote it a lot on Tuesday June 7th. Bring it out in May and then the Eshop/browser just gets a press release. Bring it out on June 6th, the EShop gets a press release and then the next day Nintendo talks about it a lot at their E3 confence. The delay makes sense.

Hopefully the 3DS will have better support on its downloadable service than the DSi, although there are a few games that are good on the shop. Waiting patiently for the the firmware update, the Joe Cool way.

How was that smart? We're enjoying our 3DS' right now, plus we'll enjoy them even more in June.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I think it's all about more easily having patience for it. I feel like it's easier for me to wait because I don't have one and I know it, so I occupy myself with other things, and whether the update comes out tomorrow or June 6th, I still don't have a 3DS (which might actually change for me in the next week or so, in which case I'll have to work harder to be patient for the update).
