Yoshi's Island DS wasn't terrible. What makes you think it's bad?

I agree, it may not have been as good as its predecessor but its still a great game.

I liked the game

I swapped it with my brother for Sonic Rush Adventure. Totally worth it.

No one has mentioned the huge changes to Daisy Cruiser. Now you can go into the pool for some underwater portion, and the part where you fall through the hatch is now filled with water.

Also, it looks like they've change the ramps on Kalimari Desert since the first time they showed it.

And Pirahna Slider looks like the best Mario Kart stage of all time.

Sonic Rush Adventure is my favorite non-Genesis Sonic ever, that was a great choice.

yeah Yoshi's Island DS wasn't a bad game exactly but it felt so lifeless and meh compared to the original (which is one of my favorite games ever) and the soundtrack sucked, which along with Baby Peach killed the game's sound, which made the game DOA for me.

Dino Dino Jungle is in as well. There is only one track that has yet to be unveiled now.

The cape could be an unlockable kart part, CowLaunch. The glider is one of the parts you can change. I'm sure we haven't seen all the possible parts yet.

The battle arenas look awesome in this game. The changes to the old ones really make them better, such as flying on Big Donut and hiding in the water on Palm Shore. Honey Bee House and Wuhu Town both look awesome as well, but Sherbet Rink doesn't do much for me.

And when you look at the new tracks and the retro tracks in this game, I think I can confidently say that this game has the best track selection of any Mario Kart game....by a long shot.

Definitely the best course selection

Yeah, but 10 seconds of these tracks are better than most whole tracks I've played....Said I to a comment that disappeared.

Whoops. Didn't mean to do that.

I don't get how a few seconds of a track can completely blow away something like a hundred tracks and however many battle courses, but they look good enough. Nothing particular seems significantly awesomer than the double trouble that is MKDS/DD, but I don't expect that. If it's as good as those two or nearly so but with better online, that's enough.

I hope the last retro track is Donut Plains 3

I think a lot of people are expecting the last track to be Royal Raceway, because the huge jump would work well as a flying section. But if I had my choice, I'd probably pick Yoshi Valley.

@Adam, The fact that MK7 has no throwaway course, like a dull Luigi Circuit oval, or worse, a stage so bland it could only be called Figure 8 Circuit, says a lot. Retro Studios helped with the track designs and it shows. I'm seeing a lot of innovation, alternate paths, and shorcuts in these courses.

Figure 8 is the first course, and the first one is always simple. Seems weird to judge past MK's by their worst course and MK7 by brief glimpses of courses that might possibly be better, but that's just me. MKW has made me wary.

On another topic, I don't like lots of alternate paths, myself. It downplays player interaction if you aren't on the same path. That's why I didn't like Diddy Kong Racing. Yoshi's Valley was novel, though. I always approve of trying something new even if it ends up awful.

And I'm glad to see Retro getting pulled in on this. I've often wished they would do a racer, but since they never have, there's unfortunately no way to pinpoint what is their influence in MK7 unless they've said something particular in interviews.

Actually, in an interview, Retro has actually worked on the track designs as stated by the Producer/Director of MK7. So, not just Jungle Japes, but the other tracks in this game too. I think it was in an Iwata Asks interview.

EDIT: Reread it and yeah, EAD and Retro worked closely together on track desgins and character designs.

One thing that stood out to me from what I have seen in this game is how the tracks look "lively" and just so different than the past Mario Kart tracks. Like the Pirahna Slide, that's not something we ever saw in Mario Kart and it's so unique. I'm not saying the past tracks are inferior or uncreative, but the new tracks in mk7 look more exciting to me than MKWii.

And those of us who played the PRIME games know how great the level design in those games were.

Just my take. I'd be so happy if they threw in Samus' gunship as a body like they did for Blue Falcon in MKWii

^It was the Nintendo Power interview that he said Retro worked on track design and character design.

@Adam, I wasn't judging past MKs by their worst stages, I was just referencing those stages for a simple comparison. I was also including retro courses when I said this game had the best track selection. Some excellent retro courses are in this game, and most have been redone and look better than ever. I really disliked Mushroom Gorge (the bouncy mushrooms screwed me over than any other stage in MK history) but it looks better now that you can glide through a portion of the mushrooms.

And after just five seconds I can tell that the new Rainbow Road looks way better than the mediocre DS one. (Can't you tell I love taking jabs at Mario Kart DS )

Ah, k. Not Iwata Asks then. Misread it. So many things going on ._."

Those five seconds aren't really that exciting. You have a wide track, pointless railings, and a boost tunnel thing like in MKDD. Nothing new. No way to know if that is one of the more exciting parts of the track (I hope not) or just one short dull moment.

Mushroom Gorge looks better than it was before, but one small improvement on one of the series' worst tracks isn't something that excites me. The game is still worse off for having any MKW stages at all.

First tracks don't make good comparisons. They are supposed to be simple. Figure 8 does what it is supposed to do — introduce you to the game without any complications.

That tunnel in Rainbow Road is nothing like the one in DD. This one is a spinning cylinder you can drive in with lots of boost pads. The other one the game took control over. And you probably didn't pause the video and look at the track in the background like I did, because it looks like they did some amazing things from what I can see.

And if the game is worse off for having Koopa Cape, Maple Treeway, and Coconut Mall, then well, that just makes no sense.

Figure 8 does what it's supposed to do? It should leave a good first impression, regardless if it's an easy track or not. Look at Toad's Circuit. It's the first track in the game and it looks amazing. Whatever person came up with Figure 8 Circuit should have been fired on the spot.
