Just like the system itself, perpetually on. I've never turned off the online, and I think i've only turned the system off like maybe 3 or 4 times since i bought it (around June).
Speaking of my friends list, I really wish I had some people to play against online... It saddens me when I see no one online other than myself.
If you mean on DOA, I intend to get it relatively soon. I don't actually have my 3DS yet, but I will have one soon. I probably won't get DOA right after, but if DOA is what you want a match in, maybe we could play? I've hardly played any DOA games at all, but I'm open to new games.
Nintendo - Where even first person shooters ooze creativity.
People shut their systems off at night!? But that's when you can just leave it charging and let all the content come to you while you're asleep!
I shut mine off at night for the same reason that I turn off my computer and switch off the lights when I go to bed - to save electricity. I know the 3DS in sleep mode isn't taking up that much power, but I've come home from a day at work to find the 3DS power really drained while it was in sleep mode. Rechargable batteries don't last forever, and eventually it will wear down and not hold the charge. Since the battery isn't all that great to begin with, I don't want to do anything to make it even worse.
I have the wireless turned off most of the time to save battery life I only ever have it on when I want to download something from the eshop or just look around the eshop or download the newest videos from Nintendo Video or download an update or rarely play a multiplayer game or go looking for streetpasses which I rarely get anyway. Yesterday I only had the wireless on once to downloaded the new update and the new videos on Nintendo Video today I will probably only have the wireless on once to download Pushmo and the newest video from Nintendo Video.
Two things: Firstly, why would you turn on the wireless just for Nintendo video? Isn't the point of Nintendo video having the 3DS download the videos without you knowing?
Secondly.... I'm breathless after reading your comment in my head.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
For myself, its roughly 85% of the time even if I'm not playing any games online. Though it can be slow I actually surf the internet, check out the eshop all the time (even if I don't buy anything), check out Nintendo Video (though I dismiss a lot of the crappy videos), await new spot pass content from DOA Dimensions (Brilliant move by the way), see if any of my friends are online, etc. How about you guys?
same here, the eshop and friends list are the most played software and have the most playing time, and my friends don't seem to be online a lot and are definitely not "gamers".. I have DOA and getting Tetris Axis, Zen pinball & Mario kart 7 if you're interested in these games and still have space I would like to add you

Yep, that's me as well, plus I always keep the 3D at max.
wireless? 3D? Power?? Brightness??? ON, MAX, ON, MAX
And battery life actually hasn't been an issue, since I only play portable games for short to medium stretches of time, then back it goes on the cradle.

Well, it really depends. If I am on a road trip or something, I will have the wireless off to conserve battery. If I'm at home, I will have it on maybe 80-90% of the time simply because I like to see how my friends are doing.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I keep forgetting you can turn it off, so mine stays on all the time.

This.
Still rockin' the GameBoy brick. Yes, I do believe it's portable. It fits in my satchel.
