Like most people in this thread, I have major issues with controls on the DS/3DS. Metroid Prime Hunters and KI: Uprising were both nearly unplayable for me. I have very large hands which is the main problem. I often wish I had waited for the XL models.
The circle pad pro helps out a lot though. RE: Revelations and MGS3 were both fine.
@CanisWolfred and @GuSilverFlame You guys do know that Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D BOTH had first person modes, right?
@Blast what!?!?!? I have resident evil revelations and never knew about this! (though my post was more for the frames per second joke )

IDK if it's just me but I feel like the cirlce pad pro if given the chance can make playing FPS games easier. I mean it's bulky and ugly but it is comfortable to hold and since it's bigger it makes things feel less cramped. Renegade Kid is making a FPS game that supports CPP and I hope I'm right about it. The CPP was amazing on RE:Revelations but then again the game is not as fast paced as most FPS games.
The cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.

Probably because there aren't many great FPS for the handheld in the 1st place.
This. This is why.
The reasons for this are a bit less aesthetic and more capitalist. There is simply not a huge market for them. For whatever the personal reasons of some players for not wanting them, I personally don't like FPS in any medium, there is no reason for them to make many. Would you invest money in a product that you may break even with?
Friend list is full, I will be clearing room for Bravely Default soon though. Colors! 3D Gallery, My Blog

That doesn't make them First person shooters, though. Every game with a gun these days has a First Person view to some extent. Even Ratchet & Clank. Heck, Zelda lets you use a First person view when using the bow or hookshot. Is Zelda now a First person shooter?
And that doesn't change the fact that they're stealth-action and Action/Horror, respectively.

@CanisWolfred Okay... I see your point now see mine. Have you played Resident Evil: Revelations Mode online aka Raid Mode???? Its incredibly intense with other people.
Nope. And I don't see what that has to do with anything?
@CanisWolfred ... I brought up cuz if you OWNED Resident Evil: Revelations then you would know you can play against and play with people online.
You don't see RE: R as a FPS? Fine. I see it as a horror/action and FPS game.

I think people (not just you) are confusing genre with gameplay. But yes I wouldn't say MGS should be classed as FPS, rather F/TPS (First/Third person shooter) a completely different form of gameplay.
E.g. The wheel of time game and Counter Strike are both FPS but one is an Action/Adventure and the other is a "team" online shooter, both have similar mechanics but are ultimately very different experiences.

An instance of first person gun play ought to be a sufficient example, considering there are very few games that even attempt an FPS style.
I don't like first person shooters at all but my guess have to do with the fact that first person shooters are mainly developed by western developers, unlike the Japanese, western developers do not really treat handhelds seriously and normally put considerable less effort on their handheld efforts than they do for console or pc... For this reason first person shooters available for handhelds are not of very good quality thus not popular
@I-U
i could never play like that. my pinky is very unuseful. one reason why i dont like to play with keyboard because in many games you need your pinky for crouching
PS:
MGS3 is a Stealth-Action game
RE:R is a Horrorshooter
both have FPS-modes but that doesnt make them FPS-games. mario kart has third person shooting mechanics if you like (throwing shells), but it is not a third person shooter/thrower. it is a funracer
@I-U how do you hold a DS with both hands and aim with the stylus???
pics or it didnt happen !
What @Neoproteus said is basically how I've been playing Metroid Prime Hunters.
hell yeah that's the best way to hold a DS or 3DS!(though my little finger doesn't get in that position, maybe because my hand is big it fits better)
