I've only played 3D land....The controls were great(a step up over galaxy) along with the platforming, but the soundtrack especially and lack of originality in the worlds/stages you played in were a little underwhelming. expect similar worlds that were present in the NSMB series, along with a few N64 based levels(Clock stage for ex). I also hated that it was locked in at 30fps.

Other than that, it felt like a true 2D to 3D Mario transition. Run button is back, small Mario, the flag poles, ect ect.
But it doesn't stand out imo as being one of the greats. the magic factor is low in this one. Mario 64 had it, Sunshine even had a bit of it, along with galaxy, but not 3D land. I'd probably 8.5 it.

I totally agree with you, we were just recommending Super Mario 3D Land over infamous New Super Mario Bros. 2.

I think the best 3D Mario games are Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. I didn't like the small worlds of Galaxy but its sequel is a better game.

I can only hope for something like Super Mario 64 next time.

Hell yeah. I'm fairly sure I remember playing it. This sort of thing was like magic in 1990:

Oh, sorry, but I am grateful that I skipped that and played Super Mario 64 instead.

I liked Stunt Race FX (SNES) back in the day, first 3D racer (made by Nintendo). It has both racing and stunt modes. I want to play it again, so bring it back Nintendo! (I sold the cartridge).

Neither are as amazing as the rest of the Mario series, but out of those two... go with 3D Land. New Super Mario Bros 2 pretty much adds nothing interesting to the franchise, whereas 3D Land at least introduced the traditional 2D Mario gameplay to a 3D World, and added minor things like the Boomerang Flower, Pom Pom, etc.

Agreed. Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 are diamonds that point the way to go. The New and 3D series are just okay.
