I think it would be awesome if they did some sort of art contest wit hthe shirt designer thing, and each week they would choose the winner and the winner would recieve 20,000 bells or something cool like that.

That and maybe a online store with user craeated content to buy (in bells ) and you could make a profit for how much you sell.

Yes, that's a nice idea. Animal Crossing joins the "Play, Create, Share" path way.

I agree that the DS game is fun, but I like the WIi verison too. The thing that, imo, makes City Folk good is the Wii Speak. I like talking to my online friends on City Folk. Its a much better way of communicating then the DS's texting imo. I've had a lot of fun with CIty Folk. I agree that there wasn't much of a difference between Wild World & City Folk, but I like both.

I also disagree about the 3DS looking the same as the other two. From the screenshots I've seen, the graphics are MUCH improved. They look better then the Wii's graphics even. The characters are taller, objects have shadows, objects look better, there's lots of grass, etc. Plus, the game is going to have the main character play as the Mayor, which is a new addition to the series. Now, hopefully they'll add some other new features, but it does like AC3DS is going to take a step forward. Time will tell.

I have high hopes for the game. Of course, I am biased since I'm a huge fan of the series. Its one of my favorite series. That said, if they reveal more info about the game and it really isn't that different from the other three games, than I doubt I'll pick it up. I really want to see the series go forward. That doesn't mean changing the gameplay completely, I'm sure there will always be fishing, catching bugs, talking to animals, digging up stuff, etc in the game, but I'd like to see the Mayor thing add a few new elements, like more town customization and new ways to interact with the town & animal neighbors.

Man, I wish Nintendo would release some more info on the game...sigh

I've only played played the Wii version City Folk, but i'm definitely interested in the 3DS' new features for the game. If there aren't some major changes I guess I'll pass. My fiancee and I both liked playing the game, but it didn't take too long for us to ask ourselves "why are we doing this" and get distracted by other more satisfying games. My best guess is I am missing out by not having anyone to play with online, but I definitely need more from the game somehow, and that may be a more organized and open online world.

maybe it wears down the same way harvest moon wears down, and needs a re-imagining like Rune Factory. Give me a little something more to do in this world. Give me some real goals. Give me a reason to catch different fish. Give me some online competitions, only available to fishermen who have caught em all. let me solve some puzzles or fight or race or win a competition while I'm enjoying my city.

grinding selling peaches or fish to get another room in my house just doesn't cut it for well spent gaming time.

Does having online friends to visit other cities and wii chat to talk make all the difference for this game? Everything about the idea makes me want to enjoy it more.

@Squiggle55. You can also sell bugs too and talking to your neighbors & doing favors for them nets you money, items, etc.The key to Crossing, imo, is not to focus on just one thing. Sure, you want to upgrade the house, but you should also try to find some new furniture, dig up stuff, fish and bug hunt to add stuff to your museum, add flowers to the town and water them, talk to your wacky neighbors and see what funny thing they'll say next, etc.

That said, having online friends to visit & chat with does make a difference for the game. Its always cool to talk to people, imo, plus if you meet a really nice person they'll give you items (like DLC you missed or dlc from another country), money, and flowers.

Plus its more fun, imo, to fish and bug hunt with other people. And talk to animals you've never seen before. Oh and check out unique houses that people put together. Holidays are a lot more fun too. Its cool to have some people to play with on Thanksgiving, for instance, because you can work together to find the turkey!

Its doubtful that the 3DS verison will have a more open world that what's available here or any of the other stuff you mention (although there IS a reason to catch different fish and thats your museum). The point of Animal Crossing is to move into small town, pay off your house, buy stuff for the house, fish, bug hunt, put stuff in your museum, and talk to your animals. Its a SIM game, so its much more laid back and less goal oriented. Sure, I'm hoping the 3DS adds a few more features, like more town customization, some 3DS features (voice chat with the mic, pattern making with the camera), and that the mayor thing changes up the game a little (more control over the town, some new stuff to do), but I also know that the basic gameplay: fishing, bug hunting, etc won't change. Some stuff may be added to it (I hope), but its not Rune Factory and I hope it doesn't become Rune Factory. I like that AC is more laid back. You decide what you want to do in the game; the game doesn't decide for you.

Anyway, if you ever decide to play online, please send me a PM and I'll get you a code. My town is not up right now, because my Wii won't read discs (sigh), but I am playing in another family members town. Please let me know if you want to visit sometime.

Animal Crossing is the best sim game hands down. I really enjoyed the first MySims games but the rest of them have been rubbish with the exception of MySims SkyHeroes. So you can believe that I'm really looking forward to Animal Crossing 3DS.

regardless of new features, im getting it on day one. but being mayor is a pretty pimpin aspect. i just sincerely hope they cut the whole grass "feature" from city folk. oh, and i heard a rumor that the city will be back. hope so, they cant just say "guess what! theres a city! but you can only go if youve got a wii" > i was just thinking though, u know how tortimer always organises events? can you? like, would you be able to make an event according to those with various interests in your town? who knows, maybe you can move to a city jk that might get stupid

what "grass feature" are you talking about? and i really don't like that you get to be the mayor. what will happen to tortimer?!!

Cringing is really fun.

One of my favorite series in gaming? Back on handhelds? In 3D?? Yes please!
I think the main thing they need to do is open up the online lobby up to more than just people on your friends list--they won't, because they're Nintendo and this is Animal Crossing, but I can dream.

Thankfully, I think Nintendo got the message that friend codes were a bad idea, so even if it is "friends only," I think it's safe to assume that it won't be as much of a hassle to add friends to your friends list.

EDIT: Also, I said this in another thread, but this whole "You get to be the mayor!" thing does not have me sold yet. I mean, in the old Animal Crossing games your whole town was already completely dependent on you. You had to help people with their problems, plant flowers and trees, pull weeds and pick up garbage--without you none of that stuff would get down and everyone would move; all while Tortimer sleeps away in his office. So they're going to have to slap on some pretty neat features to convince me that this isn't just a re-labeling of something we've already had.

By "you get to be mayor!", they mean "you don't get any avatar customisation, you get to be a crusty, egotistical old tortoise and gameplay involves speaking every so often and lots of sleep". Suspend mode will be a big feature in the next AC game. Heh heh horf.

Dont be to happy about changes on the online deparment. They probably will be somekind of half assed system that still relays heavy on friendcodes.

What they need to do in order to make AC survive = going online mode. The game simple is plain dead as single player game.

Somekind of online version + voice talking = win.

In city folk, if you walked on grass enough, it would die and disappear, so after playing the game alot , you'd only have brown dirt on the ground. it SUCKED. and maybe being the mayor isnt so good... he's always asleep in the town hall...IS THAT YOUR HOUSE?! haha wow, but i always wondered where phyllis, pelly, nook, mable and sable lived...surely not in their stores. because in WildWorld sable would state how she records a tv show at home... and tortimer was probably hit by gracies car on her way to town XD

I like how you closed the previous Animal Crossing topic and referred us to this one, in which the last post was on December 12th, 2010, James hahah how many pages back did you have to go to find it?

Anyways, to stay on track, and bump this thread for everyone else, I just hope that they go crazy with house upgrades. Once I paid off my mansion in Wild World, I lost a main goal and soon my interest in the game dwindled away =(

What does everyone think the speculated patent for "massively single player" for Animal Crossing 3D means?
Here's an article on another site about it, if you have no idea what I'm talking about.
