I don't hang out at mcdonalds or Best buy much so yeah I don't imagine I'll get any use out of Nintendo zone. The video recording would be neat if I had a real exciting life worth recording.
Make one. Go out drinking with buddies and end up on a roof throwing prop Batarangs at the 3DS. That or go out clubbing and record it in 3D.

I blew through my 300 Playcoins in 10 seconds flat on Find Mii II. Now I'll have to earn them all again. :/ Although the new video recording modes make the 3DS 20% cooler.

Yeah, it can use up a lot of coins if you buy potions and stuff. I'll probably just end up doing it over time as I actually get StreetPass hits, but if I really wanna get it over and done with and need more play coins then I just shake my 3DS till I have 10 coins for the day, then time warp forward and do it again and keep doing that until I have 300 and then just change the clock back. ...But it's not really worth the effort just for this.
(I put emphases on time warping forward, because if you go backwards then I believe you lose all your Steps and Play Time beyond that point.)

If you have a mac you should probably be able to open a terminal and type: ffmpeg -i input.avi -vcodec mjpeg -r 20 -s 480x240 -sameq -vtag MJPG output.avi
....... will get you 2D video on your 3DS
