Topic: A DS game that actually looks better on the 3DS

Yes I know many of you bemoan the notion of playing DS games on the 3DS as it stretches out the game and makes it look grainy, or you could just simply push the select button to play in the normal resolution albeit making the screen tiny, but alas I have found a game that runs better and looks good on the 3DS as is.... Sonic Classic Collection. I had purchased the game upon release in 2010 for my DS Lite and found it to not run up to par and be a bit squished on the tiny DS screen. It had lagged in Sonic 2 (on of my favorite games of all time) when playing with both Sonic and Tails and even slower when I got the blue shield power up. I had then opted to just play as either Sonic or Tails just to make the game run a little bit better on the DS Lite.

Well just for fun after not playing the game for a few months I decided to finally try it on the 3DS to see how it ran. I was very impressed with the results. It ran faster and smoother on the 3DS (though I had also heard the game ran better on a DSi or DSiXL, but I do not have either system) than it ever had on the DS Lite, probably because of the faster processor. I just though I would share this little tidbit with you all here at Nintendo-life, and maybe get you to try a game you can probably find in a bargain bin somewhere and have some retro fun.

Thank you, and I hope this leads to more reponses.

I never knew Sonic Classic Collection ran better on the 3DS! I'll have to compare some other games tomorrow to see! Especially Super Robot Taisen L. I remember having some slowdown with that.

I agree. Sonic Classic Collection looks real good on the 3DS. I also hear that Solatorobo runs better on the 3DS (can't say for sure, though, since my Lite is busted).

Yea I don't know how I played it before being so slow and choppy. Well I guess it is still better than the abomination that was Sonic 1 for the GBA, that was awful! I guess I need to try Solatorobo on my 3DS now to see how it runs.

I love playing my DS/iWare games on the 3DS, to me, they all look lovely <3

And yeah, the DSi/3DS have more ram than the normal DS, I think, that's why some games run better on them.

The only reason I still like to play my DS Lite is because of the battery life, as I don't need to charge it nearly as often as I do my 3DS. Anyone know how long the 3DS battery lasts playing DS games?

Way longer than it does with 3DS games, that much I know.

Oh here we go: five to eight hours

Also, @Vehement, You have Solatorobo? That's so cool! I got the feeling not a lot of people bought it.

Yea I had purchased Solatorobo about a year ago but haven't really put much time into it yet. I figured I had better get it while I could find it haha. Also it is Vehemont not Vehement lol. Though I do like the word Vehement and it's meaning.

Oh, Vehemont. I get it. Thanks for the correction. And yeah, it was probably a good idea getting it while you could. It's still easy to find right now, but the price hasn't exactly dropped at all, and I don't think the currect ones come with a CD.

How could a DS game run better on the 3DS? The 3DS goes straight into DS emulator mode when you play a DS game, which is designed to run exaaactly like a DS does.

More RAM, according to Morphtroid. But those games apparently also ran better on the DSi, too.

Yes you see, if you wanted to use the opera ds browser on an pre DSi DS model, then you had to add a RAM expansion pack on the GBA slot of the DS.

With the DSi, they added the extra RAM directly to the console, some games run a little bit better on DSi/3DS models because of that (example: Plants vs Zombies).
