Emitter Ingenuity

You can Fuse any number of Zonai emitter devices to your shield to give you an offensive edge in combat. Lasers, Frost, Cannons, Flames — you name it. If you stick one of these dangerous devices on Link's shield, it will probably have the exact effect that you would expect.

Duel Wielding (Kind Of)

You can attach any weapon, horn or other melee-attacking item to your shield and use it for off-hand attacks. Yes, any weapon. Simply stick your item of choice on there and use the parry function (press A while holding ZL) to deal out damage with your shield.

Elemental Attacks

In much the same vein as attaching a weapon to your shield, we would also recommend using one of the elemental Like Stones too. With a swift parry, you can use Link's off-hand to electrocute, burn or freeze a whole bunch of nearby enemies. Trust us, it's a really useful one.

Bow Down

If you can swing weapons and gain elemental effects via a well-placed shield Fuse, does that mean that you can also fire arrows by sticking a bow on there?

No, no it does not. But now you have a shield with a curved piece of wood attached to it, so that's great, right?

Not The Bees!

Can I summon a swarm of bees in battle?

Yes, you can with the help of some Courser Bee Honey stuck to your shield.

How will this actually help me?

Ehhh, it doesn't really. But at least your bee buddies tag along for the ride.

A Puff Of Smoke

There's a reason why this is the combination that Aonuma was keen to showcase in the gameplay demonstration and that's because it's really cool.

By fusing a Puffshroom to Link's shield, you can temporarily blind enemies and get them off your tail, setting you up nicely for a stealthy sneak strike.

Use A Muddlebud, Bud

Just like in the above tip, the same applies to using a Muddlebud. This will send your enemies on a crazed course of combat confusion if they are unlucky enough to get caught in the cloud.

Brighten Up, Brightcap

You would be forgiven for assuming that sticking a Brightcap mushroom to Link's shield would light up the darkness around him. In truth, the glow effect is so dim that you are much better off just using Fuse of Ultrahand to see more of your surroundings if you are really short on items.

Walking On Egg Shells

Perhaps the least-surprising Fuse discovery of them all: if you stick a Bird Egg onto a shied and attempt to shield surf, then the egg will break.

We know, what a revelation!

So, there you have it, a whole bunch of shield combinations for you to try out to make your Hyrule adventures that little bit easier. A special thanks to the wonderful Alex on the video team for putting this list together over on our YouTube channel.

This is by no means an exhaustive list and we are sure that there are many more that we have missed. If any have particularly taken your fancy and we didn't mention them above, then be sure to drop them in the comments to keep those shield strats coming.
