Author Profile
Alex has been churning out videos on our YouTube channel for blinkin’ ages now. He labels everyone who passes by as a ‘Lovely Person’, and rightly so.
I stumbled into the industry because I like games, and I can string a few decent sentences together about them. The alternative would have been a prolific career as manager of the local Londis.
Experience
Alex started out as a News Contributor to Nintendo Life in 2014, before becoming Video Producer in 2015. Since 2019 he’s been Senior Video Producer for Nintendo Life.
Alex’s work is focused on reviews and features, something he describes as “dissecting (lovingly) the way games are designed, and seeing the very best in it all.”

Expertise
Alex’s first console was the one that was bought for his brother, but that his brother was forced to share with Alex - a Master System II.
Over the years Alex has owned essentially every major console, except for most of the PlayStation line. He has a PS4 Pro and a PSP now, but for the longest time he omitted Sony due to a mix of bizarre loyalty to Nintendo and personal finances. Mostly the latter.
Alex’s strongest memories are of the N64, but his favourite console is probably the Switch. It does just about everything for him and, he says, is basically the reason his career didn’t start and end with the Wii U.
He’s less enamoured with the idea of having a favourite genre, however.
All games are wonderful for different reasons, and it’s foolish to try and compartmentalise things into genres. How broad is ‘action-adventure’ for example? It’s largely meaningless.

Doshin the Giant Nintendo GameCube Review
This is the April Fool's video I think I'm most proud of, because it plays on the preconceived notion we established that all videos on the first of April are jokes. This video isn't a joke, it's a straight review of Doshin the Giant, and that's the joke.
We've Played Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Is It Any Good?
It's always a treat to be able to play and talk about a game before it's released to the public, but this was more than that. I actually contracted COVID-19 at the preview event (or more likely, the flight) which hit me hardest during the time I was supposed to create something from that event. I'd resigned myself to not being able to do it as the virus hit me very hard in the face, but stubbornness and rebellion surged through me, and somehow I managed to talk for half an hour about it. Croakily.
How to Fix Your Nintendo Switch When It Won't Turn On or Charge - Switch Basics
It's not an especially exciting or noteworthy video, but I like to think it's comprehensive and reasonably well-made. The thing I'm most proud of though, is the comments from people thanking me for helping them revive their 'broken' consoles. It's likely saved a decent amount of working units from being tossed, and also saved people money from not having to buy a replacement, or pay for it to be 'repaired'. Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
