I literally changed my Nintendo account to UK so I could buy Dandara, a Brazilian game. We're very badly represented here. The only Nintendo distributed games officially in Brazilian Portuguese are Mario Run and Pokémon Go, and they obviously aren't developed by Nintendo itself, nor are in their platforms. Mario Kart does have European Portuguese, so there's at least that.

Its not about the games its abotu sending a message. As a brazilian I 100% support this idea to attract Nintendo's attention back to us.

I'm Brazilian. Our main complaint is that we don't have an official reseller of Nintendo here, it is difficult to get the games, we pay more expensive and we don't have Nintendo games in portuguese. I joined this campaign of this news. Tnx for sharing this.

as a brazilian Nintendo fan, I could not be more excited about this! Brazil is one of the biggest gaming markets but yet Nintendo does not give us as much attention as Sony or Microsoft does, and even though it is changing slowly recently (we got a official site (with almost nothing in it) and a online store with a small number of titles (not even a eShop!)), we want some real presence, games in portuguese e official physical games. We are not begging anything, we are just sharing what we have and our wishes. If you feel bother about it, just don't watch it, but I bet you'd do the same in our position

How similar are European and Brazilian Portuguese? I am aware of substantial differences in pronunciation, word choice, and pronoun placement, but I'm wondering if intelligibility is an issue.

@JamesJose7 yeah but we're not trying to change "world's problems", it's a petition for a company to sell better (and by that, more) in a specific market. It's not about fixing climate change or getting rid of prejudice or some other unattainable thing against big corporation's wishes. It's actually very much a pro-corporation and money petition, so.... they'll at least listen

@Papasophagus It's not intelligble, but different to the point that we effectively have to pause to understand some words and sentences, and if a Portuguese is speaking too fast, I can't understand (some people do though, it varies). That's mostly because anything invented after the independence in 1822 received a different translation for each country, so we have different words from everything from "bus" to "cell phone" (for videogames specifically, "screen", "console" and "press button X" are all different, for instance). We also have many words from Africa and native indigenous populations that aren't used in Portugal (for things like "cassava" and "passion fruit").
The weird thing is that in Portugal they've always been exposed to our TV series and soap operas (audiovisual production is much bigger here), so they mostly understand us just fine, and even incorporate some of our words in their vocabulary
BUT, anyway, Zelda for instance has never ever been translated to any form of Portuguese, nor has a mainline series Pokémon game

@AntiHero yes, that's why retailers importing physical Switch copies end up charging up to $30 more than the digital only official Nintendo Shop. But this Brazilian shop has a very limited selection of non-Nintendo distributed games. You can check it by yourself here: https://loja.nintendo.com.br
This Brazilian shop is getting better, but it used to took them months to release DLCs, for instance.

we just got the official internet store lately and it isn’t full currently, but we got a physical store which is amazing and an e-shop will be up soon

@Papasophagus you can somehow work it around but it's definitely not the same. I've learned English by myself on my early days so I could play Chrono Trigger, but I see almost everyone here struggling to deep dive into the games - my 6yo son for example. And since people have alternatives on other platforms, Nintendo is loosing it here. PlayStation, Xbox and Android Gaming are huge thing in Brazil, but my son's friends don't have a clue of who Mario is. Everyone has a smartphone, and it's cheap to start playing games on that platform due to price, access to Playstore and language support, specially kids.

Either way, I believe Nintendo has to be here to have the same appeal it had back on the 90's on this country and most importantly lower the prices as, otherwise people will continue on other platforms, specially in a poor country like Brazil.

Best of luck for the whole endeavor! I'll make sure to watch live. Hopefully it catches the attention of some higher-ups at Nintendo's marketing. I'm sure it all comes down to money, but clearly this shows that there's a market for it.

Life's always been difficult to Brazilian Nintendo fans.
The little amount of "representation" we do get here is subpar at best.
Sony and Microsoft are leaps and bounds ahead in that regard.

@dux oh man that sucks I feel for you, I know that feeling where it seems everyone is being supported more. I always felt that way with so many games that would only get released in Japan.

@PetherSilva officials resselers never had a acessible price in Brasil. Only if nintendo manufacture here, the price could be good. And now, a manufacture here... I don't see this can happen anytime soon.

As a Brazilian, i am hoping the best to my country. Nintendo needs to see that there is a market here. Few games have Brazilian Portuguese (I only remember Fortnite, Mighty Gunvolt Burst and Mother Russia Bleeds), and i think we deserve more representation.

@Kalmaro hard to say it precisaly, because most of the games and consoles sold here are inside the american numbers, but are countries which have a lot less nintendo gamers and have translations to those languages in the games. For example, in Europe, to beat Brazil French and United Kingdom sell more veery probably, but the the other countries of Europe not.

Very interesting. The end of this article made me think about living in the US, and the things we take for granted. Im thinking outside of the stuff like food, clothing, water... Nintendo has ALWAYS been a presence in my life. I hope the fans in Brazil get The Powers That Be attention.

so you HAVE to learn spanish to play the games...
Then the industry grows up and you're like "Oh Sweet Now i can play Dubbed games!"
And later you see that every single game that you're about to play is dubbed in the most texas english accent that you can imagine... and there's like expressions and inside jokes that you can't understand cuz's not part of your culture...
And then you're like "Oh... I Think i'm going back to spanish because the voice actors are more experienced and i learned spanish so i understand part of the culture...
I'm fine..."
