Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 1
Image: Nintendo Life

Welcome to the final entry of our Metroid Prime 2 Full Walkthrough. In this portion we’ll be walking you through how to get into the Sky Temple, the locations of the required keys, and the remaining collectibles.

There’s no beating around the bush; this is going to be a hefty one with a lot of backtracking and a lot of portal hopping to and from the Light and Dark Aethers. That’s a lot to cover, so we better get a move on.

To the Sky Temple!

From the first save point in Sanctuary Fortress, head all the way back through the Temple Grounds, stopping at the junction point in the Great Temple. Take the door and subsequent elevator leading to the Torvus Bog, stopping halfway to use the portal to go to the Dark Aether.

After heading through the portal, drop down and follow the path through a green blast door. You’ll eventually come across an eerie sight of the large fortress ahead of you. How do you get in? Use the front door. By that, we mean use your Dark Visor and Seeker Missiles to gain access.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Behind the door will be a Missile Expansion pack. Okay, the front door clearly didn't work. Head through the tunnel to the right of the door you opened and proceed through the path.

After rolling through the tunnel, you’ll find yourself in a new area; proceed through the green blast door on the other side. Feel free to open this, but we’ll be turning around and going through the purple blast door behind us. Mind the lasers.

Scan Entry - A-Kul’s Testament

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 3
Image: Nintendo Life

Proceed through the path and you’ll come into a large area with a lot of obelisks, none of which are tormentors. On the ground will be a dead alien in front of a lit-up obelisk, hinting that it’s been activated. Scanning them will reveal A-Kul’s Testament and how they did us a favour by already securing one of the keys.

The large red orbs on each of the obelisks are the lore entries for all of the key holders; be sure to scan all of them for the logbook before setting off. Again, these are the large red orbs on all the obelisks, hard to miss.

Scan Entry - M-Dhe’s Key

Scan Entry - J-Fme’s Key

Scan Entry - J-Stl’s Key

Scan Entry - B-Stl’s Key

Scan Entry - S-Dly’s Key

Scan Entry - G-Sch’s Key

Scan Entry - S-Jrs’s Key

Scan Entry - C-Ach’s Key

Scan Entry - D-Isi’s Key

Each scan will reveal a subtle hint on the location of each corresponding key. By subtle, we mean extremely vague, which is why you’re here to get a precise location of each to enter the Sky Temple.

Let’s start by leaving the area the way you came in and head through the door after the room with the lasers; this is a green blast door if you haven’t destroyed it already.

Scan Entry - Flying Ing Cache

Inside the room you’ll fight some Ing creatures, and be sure to scan the Flying Ing Cache floating around for its logbook entry.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Destroying the Flying Ing Cache will reward you with your first Sky Temple Key. That’s one down, eight to go! Head back into the laser room and bomb jump into the tunnel on the wall.

Walk through the half-pipe and go back through the portal on the way to the Torvus Bog to the Light Aether. From here, head back to Samus’s Gunship and follow the path as if you were starting the game towards the Temple Grounds. As you arrive in the main area before the Great Temple elevator, take the portal to the Dark Aether just before you leave the cave.

Touring Aether for Keys, Entries, and Collectibles

Now we'll be going on a large tour of the entire planet, looking for the remaining Scan Entries and collectibles we have left.

More importantly, we're looking for Flying Ing Cache's to obtain the required keys for the Sky Temple.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

In the Dark Aether, head towards where the elevator would be. It won’t be there. Instead, you’ll find a Missile Expansion pack. Head back towards the portal and go through the purple blast door.

Scan Entry - Dormant Ingclaw

Follow the path towards the starting area, and you’ll find the Dormant Ingclaw in the clearing. Scan it for its logbook entry and head into the area.

You’ll find a Flying Ing Cache floating around in the clearing; kill it, and another Sky Temple Key will be yours. You’ll now want to head back towards the portal and go back to the Light Aether.

Collectible - Power Bomb Expansion

Destroy the second gate with a power bomb and head into the next area; look for a large X on the ground with a round lid in the middle. Use a ball bomb to destroy the lid, and you’ll find another Missile Expansion pack.

Scan Entry - D-Isi’s Testament

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 11
Image: Nintendo Life

You’ll now want to jump to the top of the area and head through a door across the gap. You'll be able to find the D-Isi’s Testament lore entry for the logbook by scanning a dead alien in the area.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 12
Image: Nintendo Life

You’ll now want to head to the area in Temple Grounds with the Federation ship; jump on top of the ship by any means, and you’ll find a Missile Expansion pack on the roof of the ship at the back. In the same area, take the door near the beginning of the area, it is surrounded by red symbols, and proceed on the path.

In the next clearing, you’ll know you're there when you see all the War Wasps flying at your face. Take the portal at the top of the area to the Dark Aether and use your Echo Visor to open the red door in the centre of the area.

Collectible - Beam Ammo Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 13
Image: Nintendo Life

Open the door, and you'll be rewarded with a Beam Ammo Expansion pack. From here, take the door on the other side of the area and grapple across the gap to proceed.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Image: Nintendo Life

In the area on a cliff, you’ll need to defeat some Pirate Commandos to secure the area - screw attack across the gap to an opening the rock face to find a Missile Expansion pack.

Go through the purple blast door in the area and follow the path until you come across a light energy door. Follow the path until you come into a clearing, jump up to the top of the area, and proceed through a door across the gap.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 15
Image: Nintendo Life

Use your Dark Visor to reveal a floating enemy, then destroy it to obtain another Sky Temple Key. From here, head all the way back to the portal to go back to the Light Aether in the area with the War Wasps.

Take the nearby elevator up to U-Mos in the Great Temple. We’re now going to make use of the teleporter to go to the Energy Controller in Agon Wastes. The room on the map is called “Agon Energy Controller”. Head through the path, and take the dark energy door on the right-hand side of the arena.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 16
Image: Nintendo Life

Roll through a tunnel, and on the other side, there will be a crack in the wall. Use a power bomb and head on through the light energy door. On the other side will be another Missile Expansion pack.

Take the nearby morph ball cannon and make your way through the tunnel; you’ll arrive back in the main arena, taking the route behind the light energy door. Screw attack over the chasm to the platform in the middle, and use a power bomb to break through a crack in the structure and make it fall into the abyss.

Collectible - Power Bomb Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 17
Image: Nintendo Life

Your destructive behaviour will be rewarded with a Power Bomb Expansion pack. Take the normal doorway out of the area and follow the path until you arrive in the place where you fought Dark Samus in the Pirate Headquarters.

Take the nearby elevator and follow the path. Head through the dark energy door leading into the room with the two Planet Aether holograms. Take the portal in the room to the Dark Aether and take the right dark energy door at the top of the room, follow the path heading through a normal door, and turn left to go through a light energy door. You’ll find an ammo resupply in here; it's best to stock up for the fights ahead.

Head back the way you came, this time taking the left energy door at the top of the room that leads into a corridor with a light energy door, behind it, you'll enter a large open area.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 18
Image: Nintendo Life

Go through the green energy door on the other side of the large area and break through the floor to find a Missile Expansion pack. Head back into the previous large room and take the light energy door, and the one in the following corridor in front of you to proceed.

In the following room, take the dark energy door on your right and follow the corridor until you come out in front of a cracked wall. Break it with a power bomb to reveal a pool of dark water.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 19
Image: Nintendo Life

Take a dive into the water and look around with your Dark Visor to find a creature, kill it, and another Sky Temple Key will be yours. Now, you’re going to want to backtrack into the large open area called “Battleground” on the map.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 20
Image: Nintendo Life

When you’ve entered the area, do away with the beasts attacking you and look around with your Dark Visor. Find another floating creature, destroy it, and collect another Sky Temple Key. You’ll need to use the Dark Visor to follow a path of invisible platforms to reach it.

From the ‘Battleground’ area, staying in the Dark Aether, head to where you were first ambushed by pirates and roll into the tunnel leading to the main surface area of Agon Wastes.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 21
Image: Nintendo Life

Stop when you come across a large round structure in the tunnel. Bomb jump up to a spider track and use the bomb slot at the top to turn the entire structure around, and a Missile Expansion pack is yours. Return the contraption to how it once was and roll left into the next area.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 22
Image: Nintendo Life

Go through the dark energy door at the other side of the area, drop down, stop in place, turn around, roll through an opening, and you’ll find another Missile Expansion pack. Now, you’ll want to make your way to the temple with the portal where we first entered the Dark Aether, ironically, returning to the Light Aether.

Time to go back to the swamp! Go through the door on the left and use the half-pipe to go up left and take the elevator down to the Torvus Bog. Go through the door with some roots along the wall leading up to it, not the one blocked off by them. Follow the tunnel until you come out into the area with the huge tree.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 23
Image: Nintendo Life

Use a power bomb to blow up a pair of the tree's rotten legs, and in the area where it fell, there will be a Missile Expansion pack for you to collect.

Collectible - Energy Tank

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 24
Image: Nintendo Life

Head into the nearby room with the portal, but do not activate it; instead, screw attack over to the moving platform in the middle. Take a brief ride, and you’ll find an Energy Tank. Go back into the large tree room and go through the light energy door.

Bomb jump up the small waterfall and follow the tunnel right. When you enter another room, take the door on your left and head through the tunnel into the next room with a morph ball cannon.

Collectible - Power Bomb Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 25
Image: Nintendo Life

Take the morph ball cannon, using a power bomb as soon as you land to clear some debris and roll down the tunnel. Inside you’ll find a Power Bomb Expansion pack, collect it, roll back up the tunnel, and jump through the light energy door on your right.

In the next area, grapple up to a tunnel and roll into the next room; follow the path until you come across a large room with a diagonal bridge. Face left, screw attack over the gap, and take the portal to the Dark Aether. Once through, jump down towards a yellow blast door and follow that path, pacifying the creature inside the room to make a platform.

Collectible - Power Bomb Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 26
Image: Nintendo Life

Inside the small area will be a breakable wall, use a power bomb to open it, and a Power Bomb Expansion pack will be inside. Head through the nearby yellow blast door and, in the next room, jump into the dark water.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 27
Image: Nintendo Life

Use your Dark Visor under the water, and you’ll find a Flying Ing Cache swimming around. Destroy it and gain another Sky Temple Key. Jump out of the water and take the right door of the room to leave.

Back in the room with the diagonal bridge, jump across the gap, and take the portal back to the Light Aether. Jump up to the platform next to the portal leading to a red blast door. Roll through the tunnel, activating the bomb slots to solve the puzzle.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 28
Image: Nintendo Life

Inside the tunnel, bomb jump up a ‘2’ shaped tunnel and roll into the tunnel above it. Use the Half-pipe inside to ball boost up and collect a Missile Expansion pack. Head back into the main tunnel and roll left to leave.

Collectible - Energy Tank

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 29
Image: Nintendo Life

In the next area, use the half-pipe and ball boost to reach a spider track on the right-hand side. Follow the track along the ceiling and walls, carefully making jumps to eventually find an Energy Tank. Take the door and tunnel back into the area with the diagonal bridge.

You’ll now want to head to the room with the morph ball cannon, taking the door just below and right before the cannon. Follow the tunnel until you reach a watery junction, bomb jump against an opening, and roll through the tunnel to access an elevator to take you down into the facility within the Torvus Bog.

We recommend stopping at the save point in the room with the spinning platforms for good measure, as we’ll be starting the facility section from this point. From the save point, head all the way to the bottom of the area and take the door at the bottom of the water tank.

Head through the boss room where you fought the Alpha Blogg, use the spider track on the other side to head up to the portal, and go into the Dark Aether.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Image: Nintendo Life

Once inside, use the jump walls next to the portal to jump up to a Missile Expansion pack. Staying in the Dark Aether, head into the boss arena and use the spider track to head to the door at the top of the room.

Follow the path and use the morph ball cannon in the following large area to be shot back up to the top. Jump down into an opening, grapple over to the door on the right, and follow the path. You’ll eventually enter a large room with a grapple at the top. Instead of taking it, use a power bomb on a cracked wall to gain access to a pipe system behind a dark energy door.

Scan Entry - Watchdrone

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 31
Image: Nintendo Life

Go through the pipes into the next room, and inside the dark water under the portal will be a Watchdrone. Scan it for its logbook entry, which would most likely read: “Likes going for a paddle.”

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 32
Image: Nintendo Life

Staying underwater, use your Dark Visor to locate a nearby Flying Ing Cache, kill it, and collect another Sky Temple Key. Make your way back to the surface, use the nearby portal to go back to the Light Aether, and head through the striped door to go through the pipe system.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 33
Image: Nintendo Life

While in this tunnel section make your way upwards. Use the bomb slots to correct the flow of water and make triple bomb jumps to reach a Missile Expansion pack. Make your way right to exit via the pipe system.

In the following room, use the portal and head into the Dark Aether. Make your way to the top left door in the room, taking the pipe system through to an area where you’ll need to use a power bomb to destroy what's blocking your way. Use the dark energy door to progress through another pipe system. In the next room, take the portal back to the Light Aether.

Scan Entry - Dark Blogg

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 34
Image: Nintendo Life

Take the door on your right through the pipe system and make your way through a dark energy door into a new area. Inside, a few of the fish will become coated in dark energy; scan one to gain the Dark Blogg logbook entry.

Defeat the Dark Bloggs and head up the nearby spider track, boosting over the gap out of the water. Drop down to the platform in front of the statue and activate the nearby bomb slot to gain access to the door behind the statue.

Collectible - Missile Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 35
Image: Nintendo Life

Drop back into the water to collect a Missile Expansion pack, go up the spider track, and head through the yellow blast door. In the following room, jump over the platforms and activate the left to make your way up to Sanctuary Fortress.

After arriving, proceed through the tunnel until you arrive in a large area. Take the spider track and move through the following room. You’ll want to drop down all the way to the ground and head through the door as if you’re leaving the Sanctuary Fortress. Keep moving forward and take the elevator to Temple Grounds.

Make your way to the Great Temple and, as you enter the junction, take the elevator up to U-Mos. We’ll be using the teleporter to go back to the Agon Energy Controller. Head into the arena and make your way to where you were first ambushed by pirates in the Agon Wastes. Jump over the statue in the area, proceed through the doors along the path, and take the door across the large open area.

You’ll arrive in the Pirate Headquarters room with the Planet Aether holograms, use the portal to go to the Dark Aether. When inside, take the nearest light energy door and follow the path into a room with dark water.

Collectible - Power Bomb Expansion

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 36
Image: Nintendo Life

Jump into the dark water and equip your Dark Visor to find a Power Bomb Expansion pack.

Congratulations! If you’ve been following our guide, that should be every Energy Tank, Expansion pack, and Suit Upgrade found! We can’t celebrate just yet; we still have a few Sky Temple Keys to find!

Make your way back to the portal near the entrance of the Pirate Headquarters, head through back to the Light Aether, and leave the headquarters. Keep moving on through the Temple Grounds and into the Great Temple. From the Great Temple, head to the area in the Temple Grounds with the Federation ship and make your way into the Sanctuary Fortress.

Stop at the save point in the Sanctuary Fortress to take a quick siesta because we’ll be taking the trek to find the last two Sky Temple Keys. Head for the portal in Sanctuary Fortress and go into the Dark Aether, go through the door behind the spider track, and use the screw attack to make the jump over the chasm.

Once back in the main room, head through the door on the opposite side of the room to the save point to find an ammo resupply point. Head through the yellow blast door, jump through the door on the other side of the following room, and head through the tunnel.

Scan Entry - Ing Larva Swarm

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 37
Image: Nintendo Life

You’ll encounter an Ing Larva Swarm whilst going through the tunnel; scan it for the logbook entry, then blast it away. Follow the tunnel until you come across a huge chasm.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 38
Image: Nintendo Life

Screw attack across the chasm and go through the beam of light on the other side. Screw attack again over to the other side and use your Dark Visor near a red beam of light to find a Flying Ing Cache. Kill it, and the penultimate Sky Temple Key is yours. Make your way back to the portal in the Sanctuary Fortress and go back to the Light Aether.

You’ll now want to head to an area on the map called the “Transit Station”. From the portal room, take the door behind the wall with the spider track, go up the elevator, and follow the path after the dark energy door. Take the elevator next to the light energy door in the following room and go up through another door with a moving mechanism surrounding it. Enter into another large room, jump to the middle, and grapple over to the left door.

Clear the chasm and proceed into the next area, rolling through where you fought the Spider Guardian until you find a tunnel leading to a portal behind a yellow blast door. Head through it into the Dark Aether; you’ll need to follow the spider track and boost jump over a chasm.

Collectible - Sky Temple Key

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 39
Image: Nintendo Life

Use your Dark Visor on the other side of the chasm to reveal the final Flying Ing Cache. Blast it away and obtain the last Sky Temple Key! Back to the Sky Temple we go! The quickest way there is to go to the Sanctuary Fortress Energy Controller and use the teleporter back to the Great Temple.

Back to the Sky Temple

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 40
Image: Nintendo Life

From the Great Temple, head for the portal to the Dark Aether on the way to the Torvus Bog, possibly stopping at your ship to refill all your ammo and health. Once in the Dark Aether, it’s time to make your way to the Sky Temple gateway. When you arrive, stand in the hologram in the middle to unlock the Sky Temple, and you’ll be transported directly inside.

Once you’ve entered you’ll be welcomed by an ominous noise and a disturbing dark creature escaping your view. Thankfully, there’s a savepoint nearby if you want to take a breather before taking on the penultimate boss of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. When you’re ready, screw attack across the area into the only available door and continue until you encounter the Emperor Ing.

Scan Entry - Emperor Ing Head

As soon as the fight begins, scan the upper area of the monster to gain Emperor Ing Head for the logbook.

Scan Entry - Emperor Ing Body

Scan the lower half of the beast to get the Emperor Ing Body logbook entry. Watch out for the tentacles.

Scan Entry - Emperor Ing Eye

As you fight it, the emperor will reveal its Emperor Ing Eye. Scan it before shooting the Emperor Ing into its next phase.

Scan Entry - Emperor Ing Chrysalis

At the start of the second phase, the boss will turn into an Emperor Ing Chrysalis, scan it for its logbook entry, and get back to fighting it.

Scan Entry - Mutated Emperor Ing

At the start of its final phase, quickly scan the disgusting giant alien to gain the Mutated Emperor Ing logbook entry. Then kill it, please!

Keep up the fire, and the so-called “Emperor” Ing will fall at your feet. You’ve done it. You’ve saved Aether! Your reward? Eight minutes to escape the Sky Temple. RUN!

Defeat the Emperor Ing and take the light energy back to save Planet Aether! You’ll only have eight minutes to escape the Sky Temple once you’ve beaten them. Time to skedaddle!

As you attempt to leave the Sky Temple you’ll be stopped by Dark Samus, who apparently survived her drop from the Sanctuary Fortress. It's time to take on the final boss of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, who admittedly has looked better.

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: Sky Temple Walkthrough 43
Image: Nintendo Life

Scan Entry - Dark Samus 3

Scan Dark Samus as soon as the fight begins to gain the Dark Samus 3 logbook entry.

Scan Entry - Dark Samus 4

During the fight Dark Samus, at around half health, will cover herself in protective Phazon energy. Try to scan her in this state to gain her final entry for the logbook, Dark Samus 4.

Take down Dark Samus, and the wall she blocked our way with will collapse. Hop through the portal, and you’ve done it; you’ve saved Planet Aether! The locals will appear to thank you for your efforts, but our hero will just leave and wave on her way out. Just another day in the life of Samus Aran.

In a post-credits scene, we see a trace of blue Phazon energy being restored in space. Uh-oh, we don't think we’ve seen the last of Dark Samus. With all that said, congratulations, you’ve fully completed Metroid Prime 2 Echoes! We hope you had as much time playing it as we did.
