Topic: List of Dual Layered Wii Games

I'm looking into what Wii games are on dual layer discs, because I want to rebuild my Wii library, but my system can't read these discs. So far this is what I've come up with.

  • Last Story, The
  • Metroid: Other M
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy
  • Raving Rabbids Collection
  • Sakura Wars, So Long My Love
  • Samurai Warriors 3 (and the Japan only Z3)
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl (the first game to use one)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles

Note: There is no official list available (as far as I know), so all this is hearsay from forum posts I've read across the internet (other than SSBB, which is the only confirmed case). Most users only knew of one or two games, but there was one user on Gamefaqs who listed the comprehensive list above, and seemed very confident about it, stating that a surprisngly small number of games used it.

I guess this list is here for anyone who needs it, and if you know of any other games on dual layer discs (and can confirm it), please speak up! (though seeing as this has Xenoblade Chronicles, a really late release, I'm assuming it's completely up to date).

In all honesty, I had no idea that there were dual layered Wii game discs until recently.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Buy a new Wii? I see them for 20$ all the time at yard sales and on criegslist.

I'll see if I can't do that by early next year. For now I'm just going to try to get a few inexpensive used games & play them on our current system.

Already played SSBB & Metroid: Other M, the Raving Rabbids Collection doesn't interest me, Xenoblade & MPT are expensive from what I hear, and I can get my Samurai Warriors fix on other consoles.

That leaves Sakura Wars & the Last Story. I'd probably look into them eventually, but there are a multitude of other Wii games I can get & play, so the necessity to get a newer console isn't pressuring right now (especially since I'm building up a new 360 library as well).

If you have or upgrade to a Wii U, you could just get them in electronic form from the eShop. I'm thinking of the fact that Metroid Prime Trilogy is pretty expensive now in the after market but only $20 from the eShop. Xenoblade Chronicles is also available in the eShop in Europe, so I'm hoping it's only a matter of time for the US market.

There's the USB loader method. People can go the Homebrew route and soft-mod their Wii to run game images off a USB drive. There are places that offer game images to download. Now, I don't support piracy and have purchased every game I run, so I've never tried those places. That said, there's a possibly legit route where you could BUY a game that you cannot physically play, but then download an electronic image of that same game to play on your Wii.

If you've gone the homebrew route it is possible to rip your games legit, but then I see the OP said their system can't read the discs, so it's too late for that.

What difference does it even make on the actual game?

Indeed. Single-layer games are about 4.6GB and dual-layer are 8.3GB.
I don't think Sakura Wars is playable on PS3s except the PS2 disc on BC consoles. (and it sounds like the PS2 version was somewhat more common than WIi, if maybe because it was such a niche game to begin with that many fans wanted the original format)
