I'm trying to find a good gamecube controller and the official ones are a tad more than I'm willing to spend. Most on ebay seem to be around 50 dollars or more. Yikes! I bought some generic one once and after 1 playthrough of Luigi's Mansion the stick fell apart. It was all loose and basically worthless. Any suggestions for good affordable third party controllers? Help a Gamecube fan out!

You should just bite the bullet and buy a good condition used Nintendo controller. In the UK you can get perfectly acceptable black and indigo controllers for around £20, sometimes less. Source: I've bought about 10 Nintendo GameCube controllers in the last 3 years.
@Snatcher@Zeldafan79 I've preordered 2 of these. I'll report back when they arrive in September. The N64 controller by the same company, had decent reviews, so I'm hopeful.
