Happy New Year all! I love to play games, but don't know much about hardware/connections. My buddy found his old Super NES and now we want to have some serious Street Fighter II Turbo action! The console has those red/white/yellow cables but his TV only has hdmi ports. People have been telling us to get an hdmi video converter https://bzbexpress.com/converters-and-scalers/hdmi-video-conv... and I've seen a bunch on Amazon too, but for dirt cheap! Is this all we really need? And if so, can we just go with the cheapy brands?

Thanks for any help! BTW, my Ryu is dangerous!

I've read that the best way to do it (for max quality) is to get an RGB cable for SNES and then use a high quality rgb to hdmi converter.

Also that you really get what you paid for. Could have sworn I read a great writeup on Ars about this, but now I can't seem to find it..

This might be useful to you: http://retrorgb.com/snes.html
That gets you as far as outputting RGB (instead of composite), then it'll just be a matter of finding a good RGB>HDMI. Curious to see what you find and how well it works.

I think the absolute best picture is using an open source scan converter with a ful-modded 1 chip SNES. Although each of those steps is likely to run about $200 (apiece), so it's not for the feint of heart.

The HD Retrovision cables are damn solid. The Hyperkin Retron HD is not (super nasty bouncing image issues). They're like 50 bucks, but you need a component video cable input and not HDMI.

If you have the money to invest, this is your best bet. Otherwise, I'd wait until RetroUSB drops their HDMI SNES. I have their NES console and it is outstanding (honestly, I think it's better than the Analogue NT Mini)
