Later this month, I should be getting a Matrix MID SC-999 tablet, and as you can guess, I'm not very tech savvy, but want to know if it's 1GHz Quad Core processor would be good for a variety of apps?
Now, though it is an off brand, I'm not worried about it's quality, as my dad has had a tablet from the same company (the Matrix MID SC-74JB I believe) for about a year, and it's working fine as the day we got it.
Despite the fact that his tablet has no problems surfing the net & watching YouTube, it's a bit hit or miss on games. It can handle some fully polygonal 3D games (some sort of Ski-Ball clone) & pre rendered 3D games (Paper Toss) just fine, but for some reason, isn't compatible with some 2D games (like Angry Birds, which my mom wanted to play).
Granted, the processor on his is only a Single Core 1.2 GHz one, which is why I want to know how much better (or worse) one with a Quad Core 1GHz processor would fare.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know. I think the extra cores do little to actually speed up the tablet. Just check reviews and see if lag is common. How much are you paying for it? My brother has a Dell Venue 7 or 8 for <150 and he's had no problems with lag or stuff.

I actually won't be paying it, as I'll be getting through an online rewards catalogue that our state's lottery has (think Club Nintendo, but with various electronics, magazine subscriptions, cook ware, sporting goods, etc.). As for reviews, I've only seen a few (like 4 or 5) on Amazon, but it does have 4/5 Stars, according to that small sample.
Also, @kereke12, I'm not expecting to be able to play the latest & greatest mobile games, just hopefully the stuff I had back on my old 2nd Gen iPod Touch (which would be 5-4 year old mobile games), so do you think 1GHz (Quad Core) would be able to run those games (stuff like :SHIFT:, Tetris, Chaos Rings, etc.)? Other than that, I'm only planning on using it for web browsing & YouTube.

If you search benchmarks for the tablets you should get an idea of wich tablet is the most powerful. But mostly a quad core is better than a single core.
I think I'll go for the Quad Core tablet, like I had initially planned, when the time comes.
It has an Allwinner A31s Quad Core 1GHz processor running Android 4.2, and from what I've seen on YouTube, other tablets that only have an Allwinner A20 Dual Core 1GHz processor (Android 4.1) are able to run even some of the newer 3D games (newer Temple Run games) just fine, so I should be able to play most anything on the Quad Core 1GHz tablet.

I do know that you're probably getting a total of 4ghz, since its a quad core, which is really ehhh not great, but not bad either. The common myth is that more cores is better, which is usually true but if you had a, Quad Core 2ghz and a 7 core 1 ghz, the quad core is the better answer.

Well, that is oversimplifying it a bit too much. GHz is a speed, so having a quad core clocked at 1 GHz does not mean you have 4 GHz, it means you have four cores at 1 GHz.
Having more cores typically means you have a slower speed, but if you use programs that make good use of all your cores, then it is better off to have multiple cores even if it is slower. If you don't use programs that don't know how to make the most of your cores, then going with a smaller number of cores is better because you have a better speed. It all depends on how you use it.

Apple's tablet will be one to watch out for this year. I have a gen 3 iPad and this year might be the one worth upgrading for. iPad Air was a joke IMO lol
