I am thinking of getting Link's Awakening for switch but realized it's part of a sequel, no? I am wondering if it's best to play a certain title before it such as A Link to the Past on snes? or what is a good order to play these games... I already got BoTW and that's good on its own is it the same for links awakening or should i play anything first
The real only connection between ALttP and Link’s Awakening is the fact that Nintendo says it’s the same Link in both games.
Besides that, Link mistakenly identifies Marin as Zelda at the start of the game, and a few bosses resemble bosses from ALttP. But there’s no further direct references made.
@Jarester I'd play any Zelda game in any order. Sure, sometimes it's the same Link, or you won't appreciate the references in the same way if you don't follow the release order...but it's fine!
I'd probably recommend playing Ocarina of Time before Majora's Mask, but even then it's not a big deal. Link's Awakening stands on its own

ok awesome thx glad then that I know their isnt much more lore reference to miss out on
Definitely play LA first out of those two. The remake not only spruced up the graphics but added a load of new quality of life features that make it a lot more playable than the original.
I'd think that LTTP has aged fairly gracefully, in comparison to some of the other 2D Zeldas, but you'll still experience a fair bit of clunk compared to the more recent entries in the series.
I also concur. Most Zelda games are fairly self contained, with any version of Link's Awakening among that number. The only exceptions are Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask (Same Link, with OoT clearly meant to be played first), the two Oracle games on GBC (though these can be played in either order, they can be linked together to change the plot in the second of the two you play), BotW/TotK (TotK is a sequel, though it appears for new players' sake they've retconned or ignored some events from BotW, so technically you could start with TotK), and The Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass (Same Link, but the very beginning of PH loosely recaps what happened in TWW)...and by extension Spirit Tracks, but there's a span of 100 years between it and PH's ending.
