Hi all,

I hope you are able to help me. I'll try to keep it short.

In 2020, I bought a Nintendo Switch lite Console on Ebay and it came with a preloaded account attached to the console - I didnt realise at the time so bought a few games. I then discovered that the account was a supervised account - with a date of birth of 15/2/2015. The seller didn't respond to me when I asked for the supervision to be lifted.

I ended up just living with it, because I had spent 100 pounds on games.

I sold it in the end, but last week bought an OLED switch. I have used the same login as I have about 20 games I am able t download and have also activated Mario Kart 8!

However the problem still exists. I can't access some features of FC24 for example - it asks me to email the admin. But I can't do that.

What can I do ? Is there a way around it? Is there anything I can do to stop me being a supervised user? Can I transfer all my games over to a new ID?

Any help massively appreciated

Short answer, no. I don't think Nintendo allows for the date of birth to be changed either, so, you wouldn't be able to personalise the account even if the original account holder surrendered the login details.

Part of the license agreement is that accounts are non-transferable to others, so, your options are to live with the limitations (I'm surprised you were even able to transfer the account to another console without knowing the password) or create a new account, which will mean repurchasing any games (unless Nintendo Support offers some sort of clemency in that respect, allowing you to transfer the games to a new account, but I strongly doubt it). Save data also cannot be transferred to other accounts, so you would have to let go of all of that too in the event that you decide to create your own NNID account.

And assuming that you've bought one of the Black Friday OLED bundles, your copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would now be linked to the supervised account that you've been using for the last three years.

As for the FC24 issue, I believe you must be over a certain age in order to use online features, at least with that game specifically.

I don't understand why you wouldn't have just cut your losses once you realised what you had done and start fresh with your own account. Ultimately, if you think that living with the restrictions of using a supervised/secondhand account is not enough of a disadvantage, then you might as well stick with it (though I would strongly advise against downloading any new games via the account), otherwise, you should have created a new account and ditched the existing one ages ago. Either way, I strongly doubt that Nintendo Support will be of help as passing on accounts in the event of reselling a console is prohibited.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Thanks. I have actually found a work around if anyone is ever in the same position

1) Set up a new Nintendo account with the right DOB
2) Add yourself as a user to the Nintendo with the restricted account
3) Link the new user to the console
4) Play the games as the new user
5) Same game, but now no restrictions !

Phew!

Here's the thing that account on the previous Switch account isn't yours and one shouldn't use it regardless. As they can change the Login and there's nothing you can do about it. The seller once sold has nothing to reply back to. You should've reset the Switch Lite first before using it. At this point your going to have to rebuy the games that you bought on a account that isn't yours to start with to use the same game again and most likely you gave that seller free games to use.

Exactly this. If I have any advice for OP, it is to not buy any more games as all it will take is a password change from the account holder and you will be permanently locked out with no recourse. As @SwitchForce said the first thing you should have done is a factory reset (proper thing to do with any pre-owned game console) and started with a clean slate. I would take the advice of @Sisilly_G and take a screenshot of your transaction history for reference and then reset your console. I would then contact Nintendo customer support to see if there is any way for them to restore your purchases on YOUR account. No guarantees, but it's better than potentially losing access to everything at a moment's notice. Obviously there is no recourse on the initial transaction as you have waited three years so that would absolve the seller of a PayPal dispute and/or CC chargeback. Live and learn.

My brother handed me down his switch and he wiped all his data so my switch was fresh like. In this day and age with accounts, I wouldn't bother using a device with someone elses details. Too much hassle.
