Hi

My kids each have a switch lite, I set up main account and they are on the family account, Santa is bringing them a switch console.

I am looking for some advice on the set up, is it a case of just signing in with the main account already set up on the Lite?

They dont have any online purchases/games as all physical purchased games.

Thanks

@rsbhj Are you aware of how the Primary and Non-Primary console system works? Nintendo support has a page or two on it, and some youtubers have videos on the subject. Wulff Den has video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFm0SGscSM.

If you link a nintendo account to more than one switch, you will enter primary and non-primary console territory. Every year several parents create threads expressing frustration that they can't use two switch consoles at the same time under some circumstances. What I mean by that is, if child A (or you) has their account on more than one Switch, then only one switch console can be used at a time - if there's internet connection/wifi is turned on. If you're aware of this issue, you can disregard.

I see you're not new to nintendolife. So, maybe you're already somewhat aware of how the Switch ecosystem works.

And, I'm really sorry if my post creates any anxiety. Almost every time I, or someone else, addresses this issue, it's usually breaking bad news.

edit: I see we've talked before. In which case, maybe you already know what I've said above. Also, hello @rsbhj.

Hi

I do recall some conversations when I got their switch lite's about this.

They play their switch Lites at the same time, I have a main account with there accounts each in a family set up.

If they are playing the console on the TV then they wont be playing the lite's so I dont think this would be a concern...I dont think but please correct me if I am wrong.

On that note I presume I can set up with teh existing accounts or I could create another account for the main switch?

@rsbhj You can set-up with existing accounts - only really becomes complicated if you are buying/sharing digital games over multiple consoles/accounts, but you said they are physical only so shouldn't be any issues.

Bear in mind the saves are stored on the console, not the cart, so you'll need to sync via cloud if they want to continue progress from Lite to new Switch. You need an Online sub for this - assuming that's what you meant when you said you had each set up in a family account- you have the family sub?

Playing with different accounts & physical games will allow playing consoles at the same time. So, you're good there.

That works, yes.

I think you're good to go!

The multi-console conflict arises if you play a digital game(owned by one account) on two consoles at the same time. Or, if you play using the same nintendo account on two consoles at the same time. So far, it sounds like you'll be ok.๐Ÿ˜‰ And, if you did ever run into a conflict, I think you understand the the system well enough to know why it happens and, how to right the situation.๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Thanks for the info, yeah I read about cloud storage but there can be a few issues with this actually syncing?

TBH they never play their Lites, always on the PS4, but with the switch coming they will play this on the TV, it may lead to more play on the Lites but I think they will be sold.

Thanks for the reply and info. Yeah I went through all that drama when I got the Lites, I wanted to go digital but was just too much hassle, plus the kids like to actually get a game rather than a download. It does mean I have to double up on a couple of the games like mariokart so they can play against each other.

I should have opted for the switch but went for the lites, but they just havent taken to teh hand helds, they prefer their ipads and PS4 on the TV

@rsbhj I've never actually tried the cloud sync with saves so not sure how well it works - my son plays MK8 on his Switch using my user/account so I really should try it as he doesn't have all the unlockables on his save.
