Whenever use joy cons in connect grip when playing switch on tv, there are times when selecting from a menu in game like inventory where it keeps going straight to top of menu whenever I try scroll down, it will jump straight back to top of the menu. Then when try selecting something else, the screen gets jumpy.

When connect joy cons into switch itself it seems fine.

Does anyone know what issue is; is it game glitch, an issue with my joy cons or the grip I use for them?

Official Nintendo troubleshooting says to make sure your controller is up to date; controller must be plugged in to update.

You can check controller inputs from the console settings to confirm to confirm the issue.

If the problem persists, you can try re-calibrating the analog stick from Switch settings.

It's possible the above steps can solve the issue, But it could also be "joycon drift", that is gradual degrading hardware failure of the analog stick, twhich at first can be temporarily be fixed, but as the stick continues to gradually degrade, drifing will likely return. Which sucks, yes. Joycon drift looks like phantom input, like you describe.

If that is the case, repair (replacing the analog stick) is the only solution, which Nintendo can do. Or there are youtube videos of how to replace the analaog stick. (Spawn Wave, has one, I believe.) NL had an article for where to source new analog sticks via amazon, I believe. Or buy a new controller. Or buy a new controller so you can have a controller while the other is sent for repairs. Before the covid outbreak, controller repair took 1-2 weeks to get back to you, I believe.
