Topic: Error copying data from sd card to larger one

I have a fully functioning 64Gb Sandisk SD card in my switch but it is more or less full. I looked at how to use a larger one and so I copied my old sd card onto my PC. Then I formtted my new 512Gb budget SD card in the switch which worked fine. Then I copied the contents of the old SD card on to the new one and inserted the new one. The switch says that it has come from another switch.

Rather foolishly I had a name on my old SD card. I thought I could solve it by naming the new one the same and formatting it ExFat but it still says the data is corrupt.

Any suggestions please???

You can't copy everything from your old SD card to a new one. Only videos and screenshots. You have to redownload every game. Savedata is on the internal memory anyway.

You can copy the data but don't overwrite the new formatted card that the Switch formatted. If you just copy the folder and skip the folders the Switch created you can copy back the data. What you did when copying back you wiped clean the Switch formatted 512g card with 64G format that is why it doesn't recognize the card. If and when you copyback your going to have to reformat the 512G again and copy back the data from the 64G but DON'T OverWrite-skipped the already created Nintendo Folders and or the 512G format otherwise you will end up with the same problem. As mentioned some updated will have to be redownloaded and that includes DLC that you can find under the Accounts on your Switch user data management to redownload them as some Games will not load if the DLC aren't loded. I know, I did this and found this out.

@SwitchForce Are you sure it can still be done? In the past two years, I've seen people post, saying things like, "the switch won't let me transfer games to another card". (if someone is upgrading to a bigger card). And they mentioned the prompt rejecting the card after putting the games on it. I don't think I've seen anyone confirm it can still be done in these past two years. So, that's what I'm going on (not the most solid evidence, I know.😉). Last time I upgraded my card was 2018.

If it can still be done, good. And forgive my post above. I'll delete it if it's wrong.

I followed the same procedure with a 128Gb card and it worked which is interesting although I named the card in windows drive manager. So at least I have doubled my space. Thanks for all the helpful comments. I will return the larger card and buy a better quality one

@WoomyNNYes I did it with another 1tb card copy the data to my computer and then after the new format copied back the data only the data I created. And yes it did mentioned bad data and I did have to redownload the DLC and updates that were on the card. I think this happened because of the update Firmware and how the Switch read the old data but I did see a increase in space so that would mean I have to redownload the data updates which would reduce the size back to about 300-400 mb free after my updates and redownload.
