Hi everyone I have a very important question before I spend my money. I really really love the splatoon series and I have almost all the collectible figures and amiibos but I bought splatoon 2 digitally and would love to get the physical version just to collect it and I was wondering if it shares the same save data

Save data is stored on the console, not on the cartridge, so it doesn't matter whether you play the digital version or the physical one as they will both use the same data. Just make sure that the physical version is identical to the region of your eShop to ensure compatibility.

@WoomyNNYes : The fact that Switch games are region free doesn't indicate that each game will be the same across regions. While a lot of games do contain support for multiple languages, this will vary on a case by case basis. For example, the Japanese edition of Splatoon 2 only contains Japanese support while there also seems to be multiple Western versions of the game. For example, the Australian/U.S. versions contain English, French, and Spanish support, while the European version contains support for the usual European languages (German, Italian, Dutch, Russian) in addition to English and Spanish. I don't know whether any additional versions exist for Korea/China/Asia.

Splatfests are also affected by which version of the game you own.

The point is that if one purchases disparate versions of the game, then the save data will not be compatible as they will be considered to be separate units of software (generating separate icons on the menu screen and separate save data for each). Fortunately, Splatoon 2 is in the distinct minority of such releases, with the majority of games being uniform across regions, but it helps to do one's homework just in case.
