Topic: All the hate towards Foamstars & Palworld makes me want it on the Switch successor!

@Atomic77 so basically your saying the only monster catching games should be Pokémon and any game that has monster catching in it isn’t right? (Ex. Monster hunter stories, Yo-kai watch, monster sanctuary, etc) am I understanding this properly?

@imadeanaccount Nope. SMT did inspire Pokemon. Even if they have different audiences and demographics, a good amount of Pokemon mechanics have their roots in SMT. Pokemon was also inspired by Mother, given that Red looks like Ninten, and Mewtwo is basically Gygas' original form.

@Atomic77 Palworld doesn't copy pokemon outside of maybe the creature designs.. and the creature designs aren't outright copies either. Most of them are just different designs with elements from pokemon, or combinations of pokemon. Only a few outright copy body shape or models. The game overall is an entirely different beast, being a copy of ARK Survival Evolved.

Pokemon also doesn't own the monster collecting genre. Games like Shin Megami Tensei and Dragon Quest pre-date it. The mindset that Pokemon owns this genre is harmful for a lot of the smaller titles that attempt to exist within this niche. Games like Fossil Fighters and Yokai Watch died due to being compared to Pokemon. People still think Digimon is some clone of Pokemon, when the series was built off an entirely different origin and has no relation to Pokemon at all. I feel like the only "clones" that exist are games like: Nexomon (Parody of Pokemon), Coromon (heavily inspired by Pokemon), and TemTem (Basically just Pokemon but MMO, catered to the disgruntled fans of the series who hate things like EXP share).

I’m neutral on the issue.

I just don't like that the monsters look like they were ripped straight from the Pokemon games and were put into a blender or something. You can have Pokemon-like games and have unique monsters.

Well, whatever, the recent Poemon games have been going downhill lately, and I watched gameplay of Palworld and was bored to death, so, eh...
