Topic: Problems w/ MK8 connecting - will changing region settings help?

Hi all,

I am from the UK currently living in New Zealand.

I recently purchased my Wii U with MarioKart 8 from the UK. My Wii is also from the UK and as I plan to transfer my credit & WiiWare, thought it best to keep my market region the same. My NintendoID is also registered in the UK and as I have UK bank accounts I can still happily buy stuff, download games etc. Without too much thought, on my new Wii U I registered my country as UK just to keep everything in alignment.

However, when trying to go online in MarioKart 8, I find that more often than not I cannot connect. When I do connect via the "regional race" option I seem to be racing against Europeans which usually drops out. The "global" option works but no one has ever turned up to my "lobby" . Trying to race rivals/friends has not worked at all.

So, I'm wondering:

1. Is this because my system is trying to connect to UK servers due to its settings?
2. If so, what are the consequences of changing the system region to NZ? Will this make a difference to online MK'ing?
3. I obviously don't want to lock myself out of features if I can avoid it. What will changing regions do to other features? Can I easily change it back without consequence?

I do so hope someone can help. Has anyone experienced similar issues? I'm not wanting to swap regions to change market regions or anything, just to play MarioKart! (ノ ゜Д゜)ノ ︵ ┻━┻

Thanks in advance!

Having read this: http://mmgn.com/wiiu/discussions--change-wii-u-region-and-buy... maybe I can just create a new Nintendo ID with a NZ country setting, change my system region and this should work right?

Has anyone else had any experience operating with two Nintendo IDs from different countries? Not wanting to purchase anything, just race!

Will swapping system region back and forth effect anything? Can anyone speak from experience?

Thanks again.
