Topic: Is an external hdd the only way to increase wii u storage?

So im thinking of buying and external hdd, to download games i can't get where i live like Xenoblade X so ill need a lot of storage to download them, but before i buy one i want to know if i can increase the wii u storage with something else?

Yes I am pretty sure you can only increase the storage with an external hdd.

SSD also works (though you might be lumping that in with HDD) as well as USB flash storage. A thumbstick will work, but make sure you get a good quality one, as the cheap ones are prone to failure with extensive use.

But if you're asking if there's a way to upgrade the internal flash storage in the Wii U, then no, I don't think so.

I have successfully used a regular USB flash storage device to save games.

The device must be prepared using the Wii U and cannot be used by any operating system, since the Wii U doesn't use a standard file system. (No partitions appear on the drive.)
