Topic: Switch can't be the only one...

Since the reveal of Nintendo Switch, a lot of fans started asking the question "Should Nintendo ditch the 3DS and focus only on Switch?". Sure I'm not here to answer the question on behalf of the big N themselves, but I'm going to point out on something that's really important regarding this topic, I don't think that Nintendo is that small of a company to only focus on one main system. The financially huge Japanese gaming empire isn't like SNK or Sega anymore, so the word focus isn't the right word to use here putting in mind how huge the fanbase is to the point that they could buy anything Nintendo puts out now (look how much the NES mini. The SNES mini and the 3DS sold even even with the existence of the Switch). So please Nintendo fans, stop saying that Nintendo should stop wasting resources and moolah on other systems and only focus on one specific product.

@tariqyasiin You're certainly entitled to your opinion. The 3DS serves the role of entry level, or bargain bin game system quite well these days. But it can do that because it is an obsolete product. It has tons of great games. Dozens, even perhaps hundreds, depending on who you ask, but so do the Wii and SNES, should Nintendo continue producing those? All things are due to come to an end in time. Personally, I think the 3DS should be phased out after Nintendo is able to drop the price of the Switch.

As to the mini/classic devices, given the ending of virtual console (much to my personal disappointment) I would hope they continue making mini consoles. I would hope they evolve the idea and incorporate online support to add the ability to download additional titles legally - to reduce the temptation to hack the devices.

I'm guessing after the technology used for Switch get a cost drop, we will start to see Nintendo cutting down the price of the is thing. Maybe we'll start to see multiple Switch systems in a one dock bundle for families. At that time Nintendo would probably just discontinue the 3DS, but not for resources shortage, but for strategic purposes I would assume.

@tariqyasiin I cannot remember where, (probably somewhere on this site) but Nintendo was quoted with their intent to have the 3DS continue as their entry level product. So once the Switch can have an entry level version - whatever price range that Nintendo considers that to be - that is most likely when they'd stop manufacturing 3DS units. But both this and my previous comments are just my reasoning based on various things I have read about the issue and my own experience.
