Thought this could be an interesting thread, where we can talk about some games that were cancelled that we were looking forward to on the DS.
For me, there are two, and I'm really sore that they never got released.
The first is Crash Landed, a Crash Bandicoot game for the DS.
Here is the demo.
The other is Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds
Both of these games strangely enough were by Renegade Kid. I don't really know why they were cancelled, especially since they looked so far along. And they looked amazing. I love 3D games, especially platformers, and there were shockingly few on the DS despite it being perfectly made for them.
Though the latter game would find new life as Mutant Mudds, it became a mere 2D game with sprites and didn't look nearly as ambitious.
Duke Nukem Trilogy was announced way back in E3 2008 for the DS and PSP. The three games were to be titled Critical Mass, Proving Grounds, and Chain Reaction. Being a Duke fan since childhood, I was really excited. Only the first game was released, and only for the DS.
It was sloppy, and it felt like an unfinished piece of crap. It seemed like the devs ran out of funding and haphazardly wrapped up production so they could at least try to make a bit of coin rather than cancel it outright.
It was unceremoniously released with no marketing whatsoever, and I just happened to encounter it at a department store for only $20 or so. I was in utter disbelief as I had no idea it had even been released (though I was aware that it had been classified by the Australian Classification Board).
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
I had completely forgotten about the original Mutant Mudds. Interesting that they never bothered making a sequel in such a manner.
Yes absolutely, I have no idea why they ending up doing what they did. It's almost like the project visionary got replaced or something.
@Knighty_IX That's really interesting about that Halo game, looks like it coulda really been something. I've played a decent amount of first person shooters on the DS and some of them were really well made. It's also interesting to hear the sound effects from Goldeneye, I guess they were using it as a base for their demo.
The already mentioned HALO is probably the most famous example of a canceled NDS game.
We could almost say with certainty that Cing would have made more titles have they not gone bankrupt. Strangely as well, their Hotel Dusk sequel (which is great in it's own right) was only released in JP and Europe and Again only in Japan and US. Just want to add, semi off-topic like, that Another Code R is to me one of Wii's gems and you should try finding it. All of the various European releases include English, just so you know.
When it comes to Mutant Mudds, I'm quite happy with the direction they ended up choosing for the series. I wasn't particularly excited from the promos, but when I played the original it was WOW.
There was supposed to be a game in Ubisoft's "My _____ Coach" series (My Weight Loss Coach, My Stop Smoking Coach, etc) called My Life Coach. It never came out, and tens of people are probably extremely disappointed that they can't play a DS game that tells you how to live your life.
Yes, but they released the My Start Smoking Coach instead. I enjoyed it immensely, especially as it included Weight Loss as a freebie.
