Nintendo's Fire Emblem Direct has just come to an end. With plenty of mobile, Switch and 3DS announcements, one of the more interesting morsels of information we got during the concise presentation was regarding the new cross-over title currently in development for multiple platforms.
Fire Emblem Warriors, teased in the recent Nintendo Switch Presentation, will arrive this Autumn / Fall on both the Nintendo Switch and also the New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL. The New 3DS support is a surprise, and it is specified as the New models - those with older systems will miss out.
No other information has been revealed about this title as of yet, but we'll be sure to update you as soon as we have more news.
Are you excited about this Fire Emblem crossover? What are your thoughts about the game being released on the New Nintendo 3DS too, but not the original models? Is this likely to make you consider the Switch version instead? Let us know in the comments!

Ho boy, I hope this won't be a Smash 4 situation where the 3DS version holds back the 'big brother'. I'll still pick it up for Switch on launch, though!
Didn't expect the n3ds support, but at least that means there will be ONE version. Either way my NS will be ready. Time to tip the scales!
It looks beautiful!!
Great news! HW Legends plays nice(on a N3DS).
Glad they're using their heads this time.
I guess I'm upgrading to the New Nintendo 3DS.
I'll get this on the New 3DS! so I can play both Nintendo Warriors games on it! if the game is super good I'll double dip on the Switch later on 😈
I fear this could put off potential Switch owners whose main reason for getting the console was this game. Personally, I'm fine with a New 3DS port AS LONG AS the superior version is on the SUPERIOR CONSOLE, unlike Hyrule Warriors Legends.
It's nice that there is a 3DS port, but of course I will stick with my superior Wii U alternative.
I think this wasn't such a great idea. It undercuts another potential Switch exclusive.
@LegendOfPokemon
That's a logical conclusion to make.
However, I don't think Fire Emblem Warriors would sell people on a Switch but not the brand new full console title on the way. That's gonna be 100% exclusive and along the lines of the Radiance games in scope.
Plus let's face it, it's still the difference between home console graphics and 3DS graphics. Hyrule Warriors was infinitely better on Wii U.
Not to say I don't agree. I'm sure it will somewhat negatively affect it, I just don't think it will be to any substantial degree. Not with a brand-new console entry on the way. Plus, it's New 3DS exclusice which greatly limits the 3DS base that can play it. And if they're gonna pay $200 for a New 3DS to play it, may as well pop an extra hundo and get current gen console that doubles as a handheld far beyond the capabilities of New 3DS.
Don't care about the Warriors games, but the more games the better.
Glad to see they made it only for 'New' 3ds systems. Hyrule Warriors Legends really struggled on the old version of the handhelds. Koei Tecmo made the right the decision.
The game looks great! I absolutely loved Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U so I have the same wonderful expectations for this game. I will however, only buy this for Switch to support that system. Down the road i'll grab the 3DS version whenever there is a sale on Amazon, Best Buy etc. They all eventually go on sale.
Please don't be an Akaneia fest. Please don't be an Akaneia fest. Please don't be an Akaneia fest.
Surprised myself how much I enjoyed both Hyrule Warriors games. Looking forward to this.
Don't care about fire emblem, but I love Hyrule Warriors Legends, so I'll keep an eye on this.
Hope the game being released on the switch won't hold back the 3ds version. Wouldn't want them doing something silly like intentionally making the 3ds version inferior (outside of the graphics department) just because it isn't in the fancy new console.
Okay...well, I doubt it'll hold the Switch version back much given how well HWL replicated and even IMPROVED on the original. But honestly, I wanna triple-dip and get Hyrule Warriors Ultimate on Switch too. Hope they can make that happen at some point, with new BotW content added.
@JaxonH The graphics were better yeah, but Legends had infinitely more content.
When the first Orb style logo came up I thought it reminded me of Puzzle & Dragons.... now THAT would a killer mash-up that I'd dive into head first. This? Nah...
@Obito_Sigma Did you mean superior Switch version or are you talking about Hyrule Warriors? This game is only coming to Switch and New 3DS.
Kinda weird from a consumer perspective that the Wii U doesn't get the game but makes sense from a developer perspective (and publisher).
Are they purposely trying not to sell the Switch. I'm mean we have alternative options for Zelda now this. Why buy a Switch when you can play this game on the New 3ds or that game on the Wii U.
Why make the game also for 3DS ? I bet they are just trying to please Japanese people but Switch is also portable..
I'm wondering if this is the beginning of more N3DS exclusives (from older models).
@MegaVel91
True, it did have more content. I don't think I would use the term "infinitely more" but it did have more.
i'll be getting the switch version soon.
@Spoony_Tech You're really not happy with the Switch roll out, are you? This game isn't coming to Wii U, you're losing it. Also don't forget the New in front of 3DS, people will think you aren't paying attention.
@MegaVel91 @JaxonH
That's mostly because Legends was released after the Wii U version, so KT gave it more content.
FE Warriors is a simultaneous release, so it should have the same content across both versions (well, barring stuff that can't run on New 3DS).
@LegendOfPokemon
They announced a main series fire emblem for 2018 as well though,
@rjejr The Wii U was for my Zelda mention. Worded kinda weird.
Fixed
@MegaVel91 @IceClimbers
"That's mostly because Legends was released after the Wii U version, so KT gave it more content.

^^^^ Also true
Probably wouldnt worry too much about the Switch version. That will have the graphics and less slow down of the 2 (Yes, slow down was more common on older 3DS models, but there was some even on a New 3DS). And if the Switch version doesnt all that much, you can be sure it'll pick up once people buy Switch consoles just to play the new FE game on Switch next year....
@Angelic_Lapras_King
Or when people buy one for Xenoblade 2. If that game wasn't enough on its own, it might be knowing a Fire Emblem and open-style Mario game will be releasing shortly afterwards.
Having pumped hundreds of hours into Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U, I purchased Legends at launch, mainly for that compass clock. Maybe put 5 hours into that version, although it played absolutely fine on my New 3DS. Lent it to a mate who only has a standard 3DS, he returned it the next day saying it was barely playable.
I think that is why it's a New 3DS exclusive.
Also, think we will see this model more and more now. Encourage people to either buy a New 3DS or a Switch
In all honesty, Hyrule Warriors Legends really should have been a New 3DS exclusive. It looked almost unplayable on the old model. Glad they seem to have rectified it with this game. Not that it matters to me anyway since I'll be getting the Switch version anyway.
Uh oh...
Time for upgrade my 3DS XL.
I will have two 3DS XL machine on February 2017 if everything according to my plan (I will buy New 3DS XL and still kept my older 3DS XL for StreetPass, Animal Crossing New Leaf Town visit, etc)
@Spoony_Tech E3 comes and then Nintendo announces Super Mario Odyssey coming to New 3DS
Okay cool, it comes out for--NEW 3DS?!?!
@Grumblevolcano Laugh now but I'm bring this comment back up in about 6 months! 😝
So, it's basically that Hyrule Warriors game that's already been on 3DS and Wii U but with a Fire Emblem skin and released as a "new" Fire Emblem game on Switch (and 3DS funnily enough)?
This is not the kind of thing that's going to enamour me to Switch, Nintendo. But at least it's in addition to a proper game in the series as opposed to Nintendo trying to pretend this is giving Fire Emblem fans what they want, and at least it's [hopefully] not taking away from any of Nintendo's in-house resources that really should be working on proper new games in the franchises we actually want to see, like F-Zero, Metroid, Punch-Out!!, Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, Kirby series, Mario Kart, Mario Sports (golf, tennis, etc.), Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, WarioWare, Yoshi series, Nintendo Wars (as in Advance Wars), Star Fox, Pokemon, Zelda (a last-gen port doesn't count), Smash Bros, etc.
All I really want to see here is a proper main Fire Emblem game though, so hopefully the one supposedly coming in 2018 does the trick.
@Spoony_Tech OK, sorry I misread it before, I get it now.
Super Mario Odyssey won't be on New 3DS, it will be Super Mario & His Hat Adventure, the 2D version of the game.
@AlexSora89 Can you imagine if they had announced it for Wii U too?
I'm glad it's only on the new 3ds and not the old one. I think that a fair amount of people didn't upgrade a new 3ds, do they'd rather buy the Switch game.
Well, I just upgraded to New 3ds but I would still get it on Switch.
@LegendOfPokemon This game was the main reason I was getting the Switch, as of now I am not. So your fears are somewhat justified.
If they keep giving me hype games then make them multiplat I may never get a Switch.
I'll purchase the Switch version
@sinalefa Welcome back. Guess you can look into Switch now that Scale bound has been canceled. We're thinking maybe Christmas depending on how things play out. I bought a Wii US week before the price cut announcement, I won't make that mistake again. I would have bought that Zelda WWHD model instead. Bundle and a sale.
@rjejr
Thanks!
Scalebound or not, the second they announced Splatoon 2 the Switch became a must buy. Mario Odyssey and Arms sealed the deal for me.
Still intrigued about Scorpio and the chance to play Gears, Halo, Forza and Ori.
@Obito_Sigma It's actually gonna be on the Switch and not the WiiU. 😱
Ehhhhh, might pick this up for New3DS if the other non-Awakening and Fates lords are in the game (and if the lords from those two games can be ignored) and if the current localization team doesn't screw up their personalities which is a very real concern considering their rather awful track record.
But hey, if Nintendo really is serious FOR ONCE to support a previous gen handheld beyond its "standard" lifespan, then killing support for the OG 3DS hardware and making 3DS ports New 3DS exclusive from now on is a good idea. Gives them a tiny bit more oomph for porting games.
I never brought myself to pick up Hyrule Warriors due to time and I was dissapointed when they added exclusive content to the 3DS port, but this one I'll pick.
I can't wait for it, on the Switch!
@rjejr
You're not supposed to make me laugh this hard at 2 AM dammit
People acting like they're going to go out and buy a New 3DS for this game. LMAO well the rest of the world(besides Japan) won't. Looks beautiful on the Switch and I can't wait to play it this Fall.
I'm glad that today someone who claims that 3DS is going to die could shut up as there are at least 2 new Fire Emblem games on 3DS (and one is exclusive). I have more confidence now that Nintendo will continue supporting 3DS and may even consider its true successor. I still deny to consider Switch is the successor of both Wii U and 3DS, and think Switch is only the successor of Wii U. Therefore, it's very logical to say if a game want to release to both home console and handheld, it's going to be on both Switch and 3DS. I would not surprise if there will be new Mario or Pokémon on 3DS this year or next year as well.
From the sound of this, at least we're not going to get an inferior version of a game being called the "definitive edition."
That additional trailer was poor, wanted to see more characters!
@JaxonH Yeah, but the absolute FE diehard fans will have their excuse next year to buy a Switch if they just settle with 3DS Warriors this year is what I mean.
Looking forward to Xenoblade 2 btw.
@AlexSora89 Sorry, not sorry. ok, now get some sleep, this website needs you well rested and humorous.
Hyrule Warriors was alright but the game really did get kinda boring after a while. I might pick this up later on for 3DS
@sinalefa By now Microsoft is probably going to skip Scorpio and go right to Scorpio 2.
Hopefully they'll add online co-op support. Was the biggest thing I missed from Hyrule Warriors.
Whether I get this depends on how much I enjoy Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U (haven't played it yet). It doesn't surprise me that the 3DS versions are stuck to the New clan only; HW Legends really chugged on the older hardware.
Love FE. Don't like Warriors games. Not interested but cool for those that are!
4 FE in a row ?
FE Warrior by Koei Tecmo, FE Echoes by Intelligent System, FE for mobile, FE (Switch ??) ?
Gonna get this on the New 3DS
Glad that this is not going to be on the old 3ds (Hyrule Warriors ran like poo poo)
I know it's the inferior version but if it means I don't have to buy the Switch (which Nintendo has yet to sell me on) then that's good with me.
@Spoony_Tech you realize, I hope, that a ton of people own the 2DS and O3DS and will not have the option to play this game without getting a new console? Might as well go straight to the Switch.
I'm not even joking, I might get this on N3DS. Hyrule Warriors looks nice on Wii U, but my N3DS XL fits in my pocket, can be played anywhere, and has a longer battery life, which will be more convenient if my cat chews up my charging cable again... little jerk.
Why is everyone getting mad that it's on N3ds too???. Reggie said the 3ds console isn't gonna die because the switch came out I think they are gonna kill of the regular old 3ds and probably keep the N3ds around to be honest
@mullen true 3ds sucessor? didn't Nintendo unified their hamdheld/home console system with the Switch so que wouldn't get game droughts? I'm Just facepalming here with the already lack of Switch anoucements, now Nintendo supports the 3ds while they should give the Switch what Wii U didn't have( because of the 3ds oversupport)
@Noelemahc Not necessarily. There aren't enough games in the current switch lineup to tempt me to buy a switch. It would be cheaper for me to upgrade to an N3DS.
Looks good. As with Street Fighter, I've always liked the characters of FE games but couldn't really get into the gameplay. Day One buy for me. Also the Switch launch calendar already looks more stuffed than the first year one of the WiiU.
Seems like the suggestions for the 3ds and future handhelds to be the budget system is slowly becoming true
@impurekind
Not to be cruel but you can take that kind of logic and apply it to a lot of franchises in my opinion.
@thehoppypoppy I'd rather count all N3DS->Switch portingand multiplat options reasons for me to skip straight onto the Switch, whichI intend to use mainly as a portable.
Plus, it's Tegra, so when it's inevitably hacked, gives me a portable N64 and Playstation emulator worth the cost.
@RaphaBoss Question, if next year Nintendo announces 4DS or Switch Mini which could fit in your pocket / longer battery life / touch friendly / lots of mobile friendly game / even mobile data or GPS support, will you boycott it because it looks like many fans here just think Switch as how it looks like now is the only love they have and they can't stand with any other new devices from Nintendo unless it's a Switch's successor after 3~5 years.
The fact that it's being released on the new 3ds just cements in my mind that we have a really weak system on our hands. Yes they could be just using a percentage of its power but I doubt it. The switch will surely be revealed to be a wii u 1.5 much like the wii was a GameCube 1.5
@rjejr
"It's nice to be needed." (Shiki Misaki, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance)
I wonder if the N3DS version will support co-op. The Switch version is a no-brainer, though whether online co-op will be supported is anyone's guess.
@whanvee
What the hell are you talking about?
I appreciate lots of people like fire emblem so they keep making them. But please leave IS alone to make another advance wars title please.
Hyped about FE Warriors, but they could have made a batter trailer.
All it confirmed is the ability to fight hundreads of soldiers and using special moves... not really the details I would call new infos. Althought... I could be wrong... the number of enemies on screen was pretty high, higher than in Hyrule Warriors on Wii U even; a showcase of the Switch's potential?
Anyway the 3DS port is a wonderful news, it really raises my hopes; all 3DS warriors games (Samurai Chonicles, Hyrule Legends) have the mechanic of controlling and guiding more characters on the battlefield; FE Warriors will be on 3DS, the mechanic is literally a FE one, at this point it's pretty much confirmed for this game too, right? Right?! ;w;
@Spoony_Tech PS4 and Xbox One had similar issues in their first year with no (or few in Xbox One's case) notable exclusives. If anything, take this as Switch is set to replace 3DS in a year (hopefully not two) anyway.
This is a great news for me as I own N3DS XL. Nintendo did really surprise me with this, I'm glad they show they still care about their handheld machine. I just hope it's a retail release and not digital one. If they will localize it I'll pick it up for my 3DS. I wouldn't play the japanese version on Switch anyway. Region free is a good think for USA/PAL games, but I don't play games I can't understand at all (language wise not story wise).
@IronMan28: I hope you are wrong.
@mullen I don't think there will be a new handheld anytime soon (if ever), but I agree this is a clear proof Nintendo still cares about their handheld and sticks to their promise of not abandoning it and that Switch is not a replacement as people still think. Yes N3DS will be abandoned one day, it's inevitable. But so will be Switch and any future console/handheld. Technology development is fast and superior each year to the older gens. I bet in 4 or more years, Nintendo will announce a new hybrid or Switch 2 or New Switch or something XD like when Sony announced PS4 and then later made the Slim and Pro version.
This will be a Switch game for me, I love playing Dynasty Warrior ESC games in a portable setting, so might as well go for the big one.
Considering there are tens of millions of N3DSes out there and no one knows how many Switches this makes perfect business sense.
I got my wish x2! 2 more Fire Emblem games for 3DS. Love it!
Will be getting on both n3ds and switch!
And so it has begun guys: No Switch exclusive, it will also come to New 3DS. Wich is another blow for Switch.
Oh, a fan-service Fire Emblem game ! I'm not a fan of musô, but as long as it features Aira/Ira (playable of course), I'm ready to take it on n3DS ! (yeah, I'm pretty weak ...) But I'm hoping for a save located on the card (I realized yesterday that everything from my game was saved on the SD card after I broke my console)
edit: also, I wonder how it slipped of my mind but... OH MY GOD A THIRD NEW 3DS GAME CARD !!
@MarcelRguez Akaneia = first world established in the series?
@Rei Yeah, that one. The one in Shadow Dragon, Mystery of the Emblem, Awakening and the like.
@Spoony_Tech
Um, multiplayer options perhaps? Hyrule Warriors for New 3DS is one player only so the appeal of the Switch version for FE Warriors is going to be an overall better package.
Warriors games are meant for home console experiences anyway.
God no.
@whanvee So games that are ported to the vita from ps4 means the Ps4 is weak? Multiplats have no bearing on the power potential of the lead system. It just means the game is being made for multiple systems...that is it.
@Syrek24 I thought I was the only one who noticed that. I love that nintendo is gonna still support the 3ds/n3ds and probably this year we will start seeing more games exclusively for the n3ds because to me to be honest I know people are gonna attack me n cry about this.. I don't see the switch as a handheld only 2-6hrs of battery life really??. Skyrim will kill it off the dock in probably a hr or 2 1/2 hrs my 3ds stays alive for like 3 days that's with me playing and putting it down off n on
I wonder if this FEW game will also have permanent deaths. I hope so as that will make it unique different from Hyrule Warriors.
@mullen Without third party Nintendo doesn't support their bigger consoles enough. They should just focus on one with both handheld and home games. I don't need to boyccot anything, I will just not buy it lol, I didn't like the 3ds btw.
@RaphaBoss Considering lots of titles are available on both PS4 and PSV, many games could be able to both console friendly and mobile friendly (and that's also why there's Switch). Also considering the chipset used in Switch, Nintendo can easily make another mobile friendly system with the same chipset after 1 or 2 years (put same thing and more in a even smaller machine). And with same chipset, it would be trivial for 3rd party to support both at the same time.
@mullen don't even compare Nintendo with PlayStation. Sony has third party, so even of they lack First party support, they will do Wellington
@RaphaBoss Nintendo also has third party, but mostly in Japan that you may less care about (as you don't like 3DS). Dedicate devices like 3DS is their main target platfomr when it's about Nintendo. Do you want to scare away these 3rd parties as well? Plus, my main point is not whether there are 3rd party or not, the point is that there is no problem for Nintendo to supports both devices if they use the same chipset. Most 3rd party release same games on different platforms with different chipsets, so one more device with same chipset would be just too easy for them, and for Nintendo (unless you think Nintendo is not technically as capable as many other developers)
@mullen Where did you read I don't like japanese third party? I don't even buy western games anymore lol. I Just don't want to see ant game droughts anymore, they can't support 2 systema at all. Unless they make a cheap mini Switch( same chip), I won't support this. Anyway, it's clear they are not releasing a handheld anytime soon.
I thought for a moment whats the difference between both games on both consoles besides the graphic?
