Price wars are dangerous for industries in general, which is why this one that Microsoft has instigated is only temporary.

We have been well acquainted with how Nintendo struggles with this. The first time they acquiesced with a Wii U price cut, it did not lead to the jump in sales that was expected. This is because Nintendo still has to address the perception that their console is not worth getting at all, since it's missing out on 3rd party games.

Nintendo has been slowly growing a list of exclusives, and Bayo 2 seems to have led many holdouts to get the console. It they stole more desirable IPs like that from multiplatform to exclusive, they could replicate that effect. If they dropped the price? No guarantees.
