@frogopus Ah, I see that now. haha. I think i was a bit harsh b/c it was a response to an article by a site writer. I think there is a higher standard when someone is publishing a “news article” to inform an entire community. There is a certain journalistic responsibility to research a topic before publishing on it. So, yeah, I would not respond to a random forum dweller that way.
@frogopus That’s exactly why it’s important to educate new communities about pinball - so they approach the hobby with knowledge and understanding. It’s certainly not gatekeeping to help people understand terminology. The video game community is another example - they call virtual pinball layouts “tables”, so when they enter the world of physical pinball, it’s helpful to explain to them that in the real world, they’re referred to as “pinball machines”. Gatekeeping would be saying “I just got a shopped ToM but had to adjust the playfield to 6.5”.
Oh boy. Now we have Pokémon people coming into the pinball world. sigh. First thing u need to know is - it’s not called a pinball “cabinet” (cringe), it’s a pinball MACHINE. And yeah, most of us have several machines that cost $12-14k each.
