@Itachi2099 In a late ear PS1 game, which are notoriously hard to modify/reverse engineer. Chrono Cross is one of the games to test your emulator for accuracy and performance. It was a very demanding game from emulators, and has been notoriously hard to emulate. Not to mention the team who made this remaster, was small and I'm sure had zero budget almost.
Oh yeah! So far the upper 50's are brutal on leveling (at least for the time being until I start the harder quests that recommend level 60+). When quests take 21+ (online even, so that value is actually half of original) vigor, and you bearly have 100+ total. I'm around level 56-57 I think with about of 20+ hours of play. The well of gem apples gets pretty shallow later as well. Tier 14, and 15 (the last two) are not worth investing into at all until you unlock the DX, and SDX varients of them, and even then, the weapon and armor alone before DX and SDX, will cost you 200+ gem apples EASY! The DX, and SDX varients are roughly twice as much as the previous, and the game encourages using the same tier level items as you get a boost in stats as well, and the DX varient alone is required for progression, not to mention the gem apples needed to unlock the story quests as well, and they don't even give you back a good fraction of what you paid to have them unlocked to beat them (Maybe except for the final mission. You get 80 for beating it).
For as much as they get right, they also get wrong I think. I've seen much worse, and the game is fairly generous, but you being punished for someone griefing/awful internet, and the game's s****y netcode is wrong. Along with a lack of customer support. The game has been out for a while (on the 3DS), and they seem to have improved everything but netcode. That would be my biggest complaint so far. That, and making your save have all the purchases tied to it also means, that the Gem apples are not server sided. Someone could easily cheat the game, and I very much doubt the server does checks to make sure it's legit. Especially since all the connections are P2P between players. There is room for improvement, and additions since it's now on the Switch. I hope it gets them. It's a fun and flawed game like many others.
Oh sure it does... When you run into games of people who leave mid game, or are using a combination of McDonald's, and Walmart internet, on top of the sh*tty netcode this game has. I lost half of my online vigor in less than 2 minutes from people leaving/disconnecting. All it takes is for one person to leave and the whole session is ended with the vigor used to start it GONE! Then the later levels in the 50+ take some serious XP and damn near requires you to empty your online vigor alone just to level... Doesn't help either there isn't customer support for this game either. So effectively, they don't give a sh*t, and there is no one to turn to when you get robbed like I have MULTIPLE TIMES!
As much as I don't like microtransactions, they don't belong In a premium game that you had to pay for, unless it was straight DLC. The game may encourage purchasing Gem apples in its own way, but it's totally not required if you play smart, and play online as well. I've been hoarding gem apples for a bit now, and I have over 650 of them at level 46 or so. Just stay away from stickers unless there are a couple you REALLY want, but I don't recommend buying them. There are more things I should be getting, but haven't yet either. Like the books that increase the stats a bit per class. Just focus on buying stages, and unlocking more by beating story stages for online. As online stages take half the vigor to play, and every time you level, your vigor is restored. Just play around with knowing that, and if you plan stuff out slightly, you won't run out of vigor for a while, if at all. I'm level 46+ and I've yet to run out of it completely.
Also, maybe focus on about 2 classes from the start or so. The later gear, and DX gear will be pretty expensive, along with later solo stages. From what I've read though, they toned down a bit from the 3DS version how much was needed to unlock stages. Not to mention, this game is expanded, and got the HD treatment.
It's a fun little time waster, and wasn't expecting to have this much fun with it. There are some downsides. Like the online/netcode being bad. If someone also leaves an online game it causes the whole game to disconnect, and makes EVERYONE lose the vigor it took to start it in the first place. Which I wish it would be patched somehow. I guess I was just craving a online Co-op Kirby game. Which just gets me to thinking about the SNES Nintendo Switch Online games being online 2 player with friends. It needs Kirby Super Star too!
Don't worry, I never took it as an attack. I'm the same way, but there are ways of doing F2P right, and this games does do a good amount of it right. It's just those higher rarity gear, and level required stages that will murder you on gems later. There is at least 14 rarities, not counting DX's of past gear. DX of beginner gear is like 82 gems a piece. A bit too much. Sadly, the same can be said about WarFrame as well. Not to mention that game lacks a good form of progression, and pacing. This also puts to good use of my Nintendo Online membership since the other games I have can be a bit problematic online with others. Of course, not counting NES, and SNES as well. One of the worst things this games does is, if the host leaves, all the vigor used to play that quest is still taken regardless. That pisses me off to no end to be perfectly honest.
@ONLYUSEmeFEET
I see we meet again fellow past Game Grumps fan lol. Also yes, and Jesus Christ! Power leveled didn't you? Took me a decent time just to get to level 38. Now it's just the cost for gear now that is raking me over the coals along with trying to progress with stages. I was able to buy all newest rarity gear for my main class, now I might have to skip a couple entirely because of costs.
You do know that every time you level, it refills the vigor right? As long as you bounce between solo, and online you can play for quite a while. I've done a single session and still going of over 4 hours without running out of vigor. I used gold coins to get the 100 gem apple purchase for 10 cents right around when I first started. It was never meant to be played all at once in one sitting, but done right, you can play A LOT.
I would have to agree, not a fan of having to use apple gems to unlock more solo missions which tie party quest/online unlocks too, but you don't need to pay for those thankfully. You also get the most xp from playing online. There is also zero missions requiring the use of other classes. Those are challenges, and you're fine not doing a bunch of those, not to mention you'll get more of them done playing online since those have their own. The later gear gets you pretty good with gem costs. Rarity 9 so far is going to cost 56 gems a piece, and there is at least 11 rarities I've seen so far. Not to mention I've ran into other player over level 40 already.
This game was designed to be played online more than anything. The XP boost, on top of getting the other challenges done (which those are not limited to online) You'll be doing pretty okay until you hit the upper level 20's I think. Pretty much stay away from stickers, and honestly those should have been unlockables. Also, as long as you're leveling, so is the group for solo play, and I'm sure the bell will help bring better teams too for a limited use ever 24 hours. I've barely upgraded my team, and I've done level 24+ solo missions fine. Which, solo missions cost WAY too much vigor, while online uses like half the amount, or even less. Even pushing the online play design even harder.
It's a matter of how you use your time, and honestly, if you want to see worse microtransactions, just look at, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem: Heros, and Dr.Mario World, with a high likelyhood of Mario Kart Tour as well. I've seen way worse, and this game has been out for quite a while before it hit the Switch.
