@Snow-Dust you know this interview is from 1992 right? Wolfenstein 3D came out in 1992. A game that essentially birthed a genre. Gaming was young. New genres were being born out of thin air. Miyamoto had no reason to believe the contrary. Weird comment, dude.
Maybe I'm giving NL too much credit but I'd imagine when they say "looks pretty great", they mean "wow this dude just made a prototype Switch that is 20% smaller by himself in his spare time!", and not "this is very aesthetically and ergonomically appealing to my non-biased eyes and perfectly emulates the feature set and design standards of the original". The amount of comments ragging on the design is insane, as if Vince himself didn't acknowledge how stupid it looks from the get-go with the line "look at it in all its sellotape glory".
This is just a random dude's rudimentary predictive prototype of what a Switch mini could look like. It isn't the fruits of Nintendo's entire design team lmao, why can't we just appreciate fellow fans making goofy stuff that most of us wouldn't even begin to know how to build
@electrogeist I hate Fortnite as much as the next guy but I wouldn't wish ill will on any developer willing to create a more balanced experience for players. From what I've heard, the devs are incredibly quick on the trigger as far as quality-of-life updates are concerned. You've got a pretty aggressive attitude lmao, did one of the devs attack you personally or something?
Fortnite is already far and away the most popular multiplayer game on the Switch so the audience is large enough for consistent play without the aid of its console peers, though I think a more appropriate workaround would be to give Switch players the option to toggle playing with other console players or just playing with Switch/mobile players (not too dissimilar from Paladins allowing you to play with controller and keyboard players of Xbox and PC platforms or just controller players).
@the8thark AHIT has a 79% on Metacritic. YL has a 72%. That's a whopping 7%. Or nothing at all, really. Both games were pretty much universally considered to be at the very least good and by most, great. "The review scores were a symptom of the reviewers not understanding the design goals of Yooka-Laylee.", no, the review scores were a symptom of the reviewers thinking "I like this game for some things and don't like it for others but on the whole I had a positive experience" if the aggregates are any indication. If you feel like every person who gave the game a less than perfect review didn't understand the game's intent, maybe the game's intent wasn't communicated properly by the developer and I'd say that is a perfectly fine criticism to make of the GAME, not the reviewers.
Furthermore, given you are willing to act as an arbiter of game intent, you should be the first to know AHIT and YL, while both being 3D platforming collectathons, take fundamentally different approaches to their given genres. YL is a free-roam collectathon. AHIT is a level-based collectathon. YL is more like Odyssey. AHIT is more like Sunshine. I wouldn't be so quick to throw around the "objective" word when making such broad claims; you are comparing apples to oranges dude. I know plenty of people who adore Sunshine and hate Odyssey, and vice versa, and I know plenty of people who adore YL and hate AHIT, and vice versa. If you think you can dictate to me how YL is objectively better than AHIT even though both games offer fundamentally different experiences inspired by different sources and geared for different audiences, I'm all ears compadre. If you can't, don't throw lines around about one game being objectively superior to another when both excel at different things.
For what its worth (given scores seem to be so damn important to people around here), the PC version of YL has an average USER score of 6.5/10 from 312 ratings. AHIT has an average USER score of 8.5/10 from 300 ratings. Those scores are EVEN MORE disparate than the review scores. Did all the gamers who bought YL get it wrong too? I get full well that YL's user scores were likely impacted by the JonTron drama but that's still a large margin. Oh, to be you.
@leo13 I'm guessing games like RDR2 currently have sold more copies for the entirety of 2018, but Smash has sold the most relative to how long it has been out.
@ArronFerg what bearing does what your team was capable have on what another developer is able or willing to do? Not every company has the budget or timeline to develop multiple perspectives or playable characters. And not every company would even feel the need to do so if they didn’t feel it had an important or relevant impact on the story they were telling. If not wanting to have a playable character of another race or orientation in your game is tantamount to laziness, well that’s a big screw you to any game with a single playable protagonist, be them male, female, or otherwise. You are arguing from annecdote; a logical fallacy masquerading as an argument in @hatch ‘s terms so to speak.
While there certainly have been inordinate amounts of ad hominem and other fallacies being thrown around after Charlie’s comment, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a comment worded as poorly as it is would be perceived as discrimination. Forgive me if I’m being too generous but my guess is the comment was meant to say something along the lines of “it’d be preferred if this title had stronger representation of diversity” rather than “its bad I have to play a game with only a male protagonist in 2019”. One argues in favour of a belief, and the other discriminates against a group. Replace “male” with “POC” or “female” or “LGBTQ member” and you see why this sort of comment just feels unnecessary and provocative in how it gets it’s point across.
a SMIDGE disappointed Team Cherry didn’t get developer of the year given how much free DLC they dropped of such exceptional quality, as well as very steady communication with the player base. but can’t really be too surprised at these results.
@Riderkicker if the idea of a speedy cheeky poking seris who can still torrent in healing sounds appealing, look up Vex30 on YouTube (possibly the best support main in NA’s competitive scene, also happens to make very informative content) or try and find an Umbral Gait Seris build online. And hell yeah dude, Fernando happens to be my main tank. He’s often played as a flank too due to his speed and damage output. Hope you enjoy your time with the game!
@Riderkicker Seris is one of my favourite healers and yeah, there’s a pretty strong emphasis on mobility options with most champions so you can do well on the eliminations screen even with supports. Supports like Pip are often even able to fulfil straight up flank or DPS roles in ranked with the right set ups. Highly recommend checking out card builds online for champions that catch your eye. Every champion can be played in numerous ways.
@NintendoKnight don’t get too confident there dude. The games have pretty drastically different approaches to the hero shooter genre. I’ve got a lot of friends who’ve moved from one to the other for a multitude of reasons. Saying Overwatch is 1000% better is like saying BOTW is 1000% better than Skyrim. Both are undoubtedly open world action adventure games with RPG elements, but it’d certainly be unfair to say one is straight up better than the other.
@Riderkicker it’s still worth trying Paladins out, especially since it won’t cost you anything given you’ve got download space available. It’s not as triple-A visually as Overwatch, but the game depth and mechanic design is incredibly high class, and it leaves a lot of room for player expression and experimentation with its card system. Both games are very good, and both are worth giving a shot!

@Snow-Dust Apologies, I was unable to tell given the poor delivery and 5 down votes.
